Short Description
Decontaminates instruments/sets and patient care equipment using thorough cleaning and disinfecting practices as they are returned to SPDConsistently performs sterilization functions in a manner in accordance with written manufacture recommendations that provides sterile, complete and patient ready supplies when needed by user areasMaintains accurate sterilization procedure records, checks sterilizer recorder charts for proper functioning of sterilizing temperatures, pressures and time cycles for each load, performs Bowie and Dick Test daily and spore test daily and with each load that contains implantable devices, and immediately reports malfunctions to the SPD supervisorConsistently follows departmental policy and procedure for all work practices, disasters and emergencies and departmental rules and regulations.Strictly adheres to hospital guidelines, universal precautions, aseptic techniqueUses PPE attire when working in the Decontamination areaCommunicates with all user areas by telephone and in person in a manner that maintains good relationships with all areas of the hospital.Responds to STAT requests immediatelyPerforms both daily maintenance maintains check list and weekly maintenance check list, all areas of the Department in a sanitary and organized conditionResponds to changes in the work schedule as necessary, works all shifts as needed and used time to departmental advantageDevelops thorough knowledge of all equipment/machinery in SPD and operates same in a safe mannerUses the PICIS System to extract surgical case information in order to assemble case cart requestsUses the EHS System to maintain proper inventory levels of supplies in SPD as needed dailyChecks assigned area of responsibility at least once per week for outdated supplies, torn wrappers, adequate supply levels, proper rotation and location and reports discrepancies to the SPD Supervisor and reprocesses all OutdatesPerforms other duties as assigned
Experience Required
Previous operating room technician or central supply technician experience (including appropriate certification) preferred.Previous surgical instrumentation/equipment decontamination and sterilization with familiarity of various instrument sterilization methods required.Must possess excellent customer service skills, initiative and ability to take independent action, and be capable of establishing and maintaining outstanding working relationships

License/Certification Requirements
CSP Certification (CRCST or CBSPD Certification) preferred
Special Requirements
CRCST Certification required within six monthsCommute must be 30 minutes or less to meet 30 minute on-call time requirement
