CVP is seeking Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) to join our team in providing our Nation's Veterans with anesthesia services at the Columbia VA Medical Center. This is a full-time position with opportunities for on-call, callback, holiday, and overtime hours.
Responsibilities Provide direct anesthesia care to patients in accordance with the standards of care established by The Joint Commission, American Hospital Association, and VA requirementsWork 8-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with potential on-call/after hours care until 7:00 a.m. the following dayPerform critical care nursing to Intensive Care Unit patientsPerform scrub and circulating duties in the Emergency Department and Operating RoomObtain patient history and pertinent family informationAssess patient condition and plan appropriate nursing careDocument plan of care and care given in patient's electronic medical recordVerify transcription of physician's ordersCarry out prescribed physician's orders and document in patient medical recordCommunicate pertinent patient data to charge nurse and/or physician as appropriateReassess patient's condition and revise plans of care based on identified nursing problemsAdminister medications and Intravenous (IV) therapiesPossess knowledge of actions and usual dosages of most commonly used emergency drugs and their location on crash cartAssess and document patient response to administered medicationInterpret cardiac rhythms and their implicationsRecognize and initiate appropriate measures in emergenciesInstruct patient/family regarding prescribed medications/therapies and surgical/diagnostic proceduresOperate defibrillator, EKG machines, cardiac monitor, and other emergency technical equipmentParticipate in discharge planning as appropriateInitiate life-saving measures in the absence of physiciansParticipate in quality improvement activities and meetings as requiredAttend monthly staff meetingsMaintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all policies regarding privacy and release of information Qualifications U.S. citizenship required to undergo a Government-sponsored background investigationMaster's or doctoral degree in nurse anesthesia from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs (COA)Current, active, full, and unrestricted license to practice as a Certified Nurse Anesthetist in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of ColumbiaCurrent certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA)Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)A minimum of one (1) year direct patient care experience within the last three (3) years; VA experience is desirableAbility to speak, understand, read, and write English fluentlyUnderstanding of medical terminology, hospital terminology, and clinical procedures
Work Schedule:
Full-time position (80 hours per pay period)Primary shift: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.On-call/after hours, overtime, and holiday coverage as needed
