Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity for experienced Pharmacy Technicians to join the Mayo Clinic Pharmacy Team! Our team is growing and we are expanding our Medication History Pharmacy Services into the evening hours. The role of the Medication History Pharmacy Technician is primarily based in the Emergency Department and is focused on interviewing patients and documenting updates to their medication history lists. Responsibilities include periodic rotation into shifts to support Hospital/Institutional Pharmacy Dispensing.

Assists the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient. Gathers, labels and distributes medications accurately and efficiently. Packages, prepares and safely compounds medications including hazardous substances accurately and efficiently. Handles, manages and distributes controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies; and assists with drug diversion surveillance. Assists with training new pharmacy staff. Assists with maintaining accurate medication inventories and billing of medications. Effectively communicates utilizing established systems and processes. Performs responsibilities and duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent. At least 6 months applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician. Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understands English. Proven history of effectively performing technical tasks and following written / verbal instructions. Able to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system. Possess strong telephone and verbal communication skills. Experience with the use of office software computer applications and keyboarding. Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail. Proven organizational and problem solving skills. Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment. Completion of post-secondary education preferred. No history of drug abuse or misuse; or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program is required. Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Florida Board of Pharmacy. Current accredited Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT); PTCB (preferred) or NHA.

PTCB Medication History Certificate or Medication Therapy Management Certificate highly preferred. Experience in Medication History documentation and Hospital Pharmacy Practice highly preferred. Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPHT-Adv) preferred.
