There is always something new to learn as the field of ophthalmology continues to grow and advance. Ophthalmic Assistants provide vision care under the supervision of a licensed ophthalmologist and assist with taking patient histories, performing diagnostic tests and procedures, patient scheduling, and exam room preparation.
**This is a full-time position. Caregivers in this role will work 8:00am to 5:00pm. Schedules may vary based on facility needs.**
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Perform clinical and technical ophthalmic duties and perform basic patient care as directed by a physician or supervisor.
+ Receive and prepare patients for examination and treatment under the direction of a supervisor or physician.
+ Perform clinical and technical ophthalmic duties for high acuity patient populations including patients admitted to the hospital and/or those with critical patient care needs.
+ Perform routine screening tests and document patient information in the patient medical record.
+ Stock and maintain exam rooms with equipment and supplies.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ High school diploma or GED
+ Successful completion of the written exam for Certified Ophthalmic Assistant
+ Recent graduate of an Ophthalmic Technology Program (not yet COT certified)
+ Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO)
+ One year of experience providing direct patient care under the supervision of an Ophthalmologist

**Physical Requirements:**
+ Manual dexterity to operate office equipment and PC.
+ Ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds.
+ May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.
+ Visual acuity, including the ability to distinguish colors.
**Personal Protective Equipment:**
+ Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
