Position OverviewJoin our inpatient rehabilitation team as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant and help patients rebuild confidence and independence in their daily lives. In this role, you’ll partner closely with Occupational Therapists to deliver evidence‑based interventions, support individualized care plans, and empower patients through meaningful, functional progress.

$22.97 - $34.46 per hour, depending on experience

Job Responsibilities:
+ Demonstrates knowledge of theory and practice necessary in providing treatment. Follows specific treatment procedures as directed by the supervising occupational therapist, including preparing the patient for treatment, informing and educating the patient in treatment indications and contraindications, performing treatment procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of rehabilitation equipment. May administer standardized, structured tests under the supervision of an occupational therapist.
+ Maintains accurate records of each patient's treatment, progress, and/or regression according to the Service Delivery Standard using paper or electronic systems, as necessary. Maintains all necessary records required to meet the criteria established by reimbursement and regulatory agencies. Maintains confidentiality of patient and hospital information.
+ Prepares the patient for treatment protocols and performs the necessary treatment as designed. Monitors the patient’s response to treatment and records same in the medical record. Reports immediately to the occupational therapist and/or physician any untoward events taking place with the patient.
+ Collaborates with other professional staff such as occupational therapists, and co-treats, as required, assists the occupational and physical therapist in assessments of patients.
+ Establishes and maintains effective working relationship with patients, their families, and other staff personnel. Participates in patient care conferences with other professionals involved in the management of cases. Provides patient/family education, as needed.
+ In collaboration with the Occupational Therapist, participates in planning decisions for patient's post-discharge placement. Makes appropriate referrals and follows up to ensure proper placement and programming of patient. Interfaces with vendor to provide needed durable medical equipment.
+ Provides direction to departmental support staff, departmental clerical staff as duties relate to treatment, occupational therapy students, volunteers.
+ Maintains necessary CEU’s for licensure and/or specialty specific certifications and professional organizations.
+ Has knowledge of and participates in departmental and organizational initiatives for performance improvement (PI).
Position Qualifications:
Minimum Required:
+ Graduate of an accredited Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant program, receiving applicable degree or certificate in occupational therapy course of study, with associate degree or equivalent/Qualifies by virtue of a Certified Military Educational Program.
+ Possession of a current license or eligibility to be licensed as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the State of New York.
+ CPR certification within first 3 months of employment.
Preferred:
+ Clinical experience in a hospital-based setting, including basic knowledge of developments in the field.
+ Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
