Certified Medication Aide - Residential - FT Evenings 3p-11p

Under the clinical supervision of the manager of residential facilities the primary responsibilities are to develop and implement individual program plans, serve as an advocate and role model for all group home clients, plan and supervise client activities, assist clients in adjusting to community expectations, document observations and the results of all interventions, uphold client rights including the right to confidentiality and maintain the group home.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Residential Services Manager, this position assists in the development and implementation of individual program plans; serves as an advocate and role model for all residential clients; plans and supervises client activities; ensures medication administration is completed accurately and per regulations and policies; assists clients with community integration; documents observations and results of all interventions; upholds client rights including confidentiality and maintenance of the residences.  Employee is responsible for ensuring a clean, safe, and healthy environment. 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensures medications are administered as directed and effectiveness is documented per physician orders and in accordance with policies, procedures, and regulations. Reviews and is aware of each client’s Individual Program Plan (IPP) and Residential Treatment Program (RTP) and ensures specific training and/or guidance is completed as outlined in plans. Works directly with clients and ensures an environment conducive to client learning in the areas of self-care skills, social interaction, and community interaction. Assists in the development and implementation of schedules for group programming, activities, and residential chore schedules and outings. Models appropriate social behavior while providing a supportive and therapeutic atmosphere for clients. Investigates and responds promptly to questions or complaints from residents.  Participates in quality meal preparation. Advocates for clients, including coordinating staffing, developing individual’s programs, performing assessments, training other staff in program procedures, reviewing IPP and RTP documentation, and making referrals for services as needed. Works collaboratively with Qualified Mental Health Professional and supervisory staff to ensure program services meet regulatory expectations. Completes all required documentation in a timely manner including but not limited to observations, program data, staffing results, medication administration, assessments, and incident reports in accordance with established procedures. Informs the appropriate individuals and/or supervisor of any client issues. Ensures residences and clients remain clean and safe during all scheduled work shifts. Provides for client transportation needs as needed. Intervenes when clients demonstrate potential or actual harmful behavior using the least restrictive method. Ability to provide verbal de-escalation and/or physical behavior management techniques as trained through BMC. Promotes concepts of performance improvement and teamwork. Models and completes activities of daily living, including self-care, laundry, meal preparation, grocery shopping, and cleaning. Attends and/or completes all required meetings and trainings within required timeframes, including regular departmental staff meetings. Embraces and supports Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned.

SCHEDULE

This position is generally scheduled full-time evenings 3p-11p (40 hours per week).

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

1. Demonstrates commitment to BMC’s mission, vision, and values and actively participates in ensuring the success of our vital sign scorecard objectives.

2. Administers client medication in compliance with regulations and organizational policies and

      procedures.

3. Meets all mandatory education training within defined time frames.

4. Ensures quality patient care for the clients from the pre-placement through discharge.

5. Stays abreast of Joint Commission, CMS, DHS, and DIA standard changes and ensures compliance.

6. Demonstrate ability to support clients in an effective and positive manner.    

7. Demonstrates effective practices of support and intervention strategies with clients.

8. Ensures residence is kept in a clean and organized manner during all work shifts.

9. Ensures client meals and snacks are prepared and provided at a reasonable time and are nutritious and appealing.

10. Ensures all documentation is completed in a timely manner, and easily readable. 

11. Meets established written, oral, and overall communication competencies including required daily documentation related to client health and programming.

12. Ensures all daily staff tasks and activities are completed during work shifts.

13. Works collaboratively with other staff members and clients to ensure service excellence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalent. Verification of completion of a state-approved Medication Aide course. One year of clinical experience working with individuals with psychiatric disorders. Ability to teach, educate, and role model the skills necessary for clients to pursue more independent living.  Valid Iowa driver's license and proof of individual insurance. Department of Health and Human Services approval to work at a residential site. Ability to effectively speak read and write English. Ability to administer and document medication administration accurately. Ability to complete and pass First Aid, CPR, and BMC-designated behavior management training during the orientation period and maintain all certifications throughout employment. Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal and professional relationships. Experience with Microsoft Office programs. Ability to physically respond to and manage client behavior challenges utilizing BMC-approved and trained behavioral management techniques.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Coursework in Human Services field. Bi-lingual. 2+ years behavioral health experience. Experience in community health and/or residential programming setting.
