Job Summary:\rThe Medical Assistant (MA) provides support to physicians and other healthcare professionals by performing clinical and administrative tasks to ensure efficient patient care delivery. The MA works closely with patients, handling both front- and back-office functions in a fast-paced medical setting. The Medical Assistant functions under the direction of the Nurse Supervisor and/or Practice/Office Manager. Key responsibilities of the role include gathering and recording vital signs and other pertinent patient information for the visit, preparing patients for exams, assisting during treatments, coordinating tests and follow-up care, and recording treatment in the medical record. The MA recognizes patient's needs and symptoms in advance and responds appropriately, always keeping patient safety and the patient experience at the center of care delivery. The MA demonstrates competency and skills to serve patients of all ages.\rCore Responsibilities and Essential Functions:\rClinical Duties and Expectations\rProvides relationship-based, patient centered care that is consistent with population specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease, etc.) in a manner that adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.\rPartners with the patient and significant others and/or family (as appropriate); keeping the patient at ease in the office through a collaborative and communicative approach to all care rendered.\rPrepares patient for the visit with the physicians/APPs.\rPrepares rooms and equipment, and aids physicians/APPs with treatment of patients.\rCarries out orders generated from the office visit. Responds to patient requests generated outside of the office visit.\rMaintains the safety needs of the patient at all times.\rMay be required to support front office operations by assisting with check-in, check-out, scheduling, and other non-clinical functions.\rExemplary Practice and Outcomes\rProvides patient care in accordance with recognized clinical practice guidelines and standards set forth by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or similar organizations.\rAdheres to federal, state, and local laws and regulations as well as organizational and industry standards for clinical care.\rUpholds all health care system/organizational and WMG policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description.\rTeamwork and Collaboration\rCollaborates with providers, nurses, and clinical staff to uphold continuity and consistency of care.\rParticipates in daily huddles, staff meetings, and medical group, or system workgroups/committees to represent the voice of the medical assistant.\rDemonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing in an inclusive manner that promotes the recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.\rParticipates in quality improvement initiatives to ensure alignment with best practices in medical assisting.\rMay be asked to serve as a preceptor to assist in the onboarding and/or training of new team members, trainees, or students.\rProfessional Development and Initiative\rCompletes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessment, required mandatory education, and population specific education.\rDemonstrates leadership by identifying areas for improvement in care delivery and suggesting innovative solutions.\rParticipates in workgroups, committees, and shared decision-making groups.\rRegularly reflects on personal performance and areas of strength or weakness. Uses this insight to seek out relevant training or mentorship to continuously improve.\rResources and Support\rSupports efficient and effective use of material resources in a fiscally responsible manner. Minimizes waste of medical supplies and medications.\rAlerts supervisors or ordering staff when supplies are running low.\rMay be asked to provide staffing coverage for absences, vacation, and leave.\rPerforms other duties as assigned\rComplies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.\rRequired Minimum Education:High School Diploma General or GED General or Other / Certificate Medical Assisting\r\rRequired Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):\rAll certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.CMA - Cert Medical AssistantBLS - Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor\rAdditional License(s) and Certification(s):\rCurrent certification from one of the following medical assisting credentialing bodies: AAMA (CMA), AMT (RMA), NHA (CCMA), NCCT (NCMA), NAHP (NRCMA) Upon Hire Required\rRequired Minimum Experience:\rExperience in the physician practice setting Preferred and\rMinimum 1 year Experience in the area or specialty the candidate is applying for Preferred\rRequired Minimum Skills:\rMust be able to work quickly and efficiently to assure patient comfort and satisfaction.
