An Occupational Therapist/Physical Therapist 2 consistently provides effective direct care to a variety of complex patients. In doing so the therapist acts as a role model and supervisor for junior staff and helps identify patients who have unmet occupational therapy needs. A Therapist is focused on expanding clinical knowledge and skills beyond the entry level and sharing this knowledge through in-services and participates as an active member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The Therapist acts as a role model and may supervise other staff. This level of therapist seeks as well as provides feedback for improved clinical practice and begins to assume a leadership role receiving mentoring in this process. Therapists at this level may be asked to contribute to performance appraisals.
UVA Health is seeking a compassionate and skilled **Hand Therapist** to join our dynamic outpatient therapy team. This role is open to both **licensed Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists** with specialized training and experience in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Evaluate and treat patients with upper extremity conditions, including post-surgical cases, fractures, tendon injuries, arthritis, nerve injuries, and repetitive strain disorders.
+ Develop and implement individualized treatment plans focused on restoring function, reducing pain, and promoting recovery.
+ Fabricate custom splints/orthoses as appropriate to support rehabilitation goals.
+ Educate patients and families on therapeutic techniques, home exercise programs, and injury prevention strategies.
+ Collaborate with referring physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare team members to ensure continuity and quality of care.
+ Document patient progress in accordance with departmental standards and regulatory requirements.
+ Participate in departmental meetings, professional development, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
+ In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
+ Education: Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy
+ Experience: 3 years of occupational therapy or physical therapy experience preferred.
+ Certified Hand Therapist preferred or desire to obtain CHT.
+ Licensure: Licensed to practice in Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
+ American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires frequently bending/stooping/traveling (distance: ½ mile). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 – 50lbs. May be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
