Ability to work with a variety of deaf individuals, including those who have language deprivation or limited access to sign language, are deaf-blind, or have other communication differences. Challenges include accurately interpreting and communicating information in an unbiased, clear and concise manner with study participants, families, care partners, community health workers, clinicians, and research staff. **Responsibilities** **Essential Functions** + Interprets communication between research staff and deaf/hard of hearing individuals/families. + Translates written educational materials and documents in accordance with readability guidelines. + Assists the deaf/hard of hearing population in completing data collection for research, such as surveys, consent form, and/or A1C kit. + Provide technical support to use software related to the research, such as Zoom and Canvas. **Problem Solving** + Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above. + Demonstrated ability to accurately interpret and translate verbal and written text. + Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills. + Ability to work independently in an efficient, productive manner maintaining composure and sensitivity in accordance with the research environment. Comments Employee must be able to meet the job requirements with or without an accommodation. This is a sedentary position in an office setting that may exert up to 10 pounds and may lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. This position involves sitting most of the time and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. **Minimum Qualifications** Required Associate’s degree in a foreign language, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Preferred Depending upon the department of hire, a knowledge of medical terminology may be required. This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
