Certified CS/SPD Technicians are responsible for cleaning and maintaining surgical and hospital tools. In this position, you help ensure patients have the best possible healthcare experience by providing caregivers with safe and sterile equipment. This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working weekend days varying between 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 a.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide safe, efficient practices for decontamination, instrument assembly, wrapping and sterilization of all reprocessed instruments and distribution equipment.
Perform case pull functions.
Determine appropriate case carts to be built for specialty procedures.
Build case carts ensuring adherence to procedures.
Dispatch case carts to ensure availability for surgical/clinical procedures.
Perform record keeping, ordering, stocking and inventory control.
Participate in in-service education.
Build case carts using electronic preference cards and dispatch them to appropriate locations.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Two to five years of experience in central service/sterile processing areas
A Sterile Processing certification (e.g., CRCST, CSPDT, CFER, or CER)
Completion of a recognized training program with certification in central service/sterile processing
Proficient in using computerized instrument tracking systems
Military experience, such as Hospital Corpsmen (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR), Aircraft Maintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F), or similar, will be considered

Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting items that weigh 20-30 pounds.
Requires the ability to push a fully loaded cart weighing up to 200+ pounds.
Possible exposure to biological and chemical contamination.
Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
