Central Utilities Operations Mechanic

Position Brand Description:

The Expert Mechanic for Utilities Operations works on a team that operates and maintains all utilities systems at LTC-N, LTC-S, and remote plant sites (high purity water, compressed air, steam, chilled water, glycol, city water, and sewers).  This position provides technical leadership and immediate decision-making capabilities while working during shift operations, is responsible for training other operations personnel, and provides expertise across all utility processes.  Other activities include collecting, recording, and using data to monitor, adjust, and control utilities processes as well as providing back-up for Sr. Specialist.

Mechanic for Utilities Operations --- Key Objectives/Deliverables

Perform and train others to perform operator-based maintenance and lead assignments to help implement improvements.Demonstrate abilities of data mining, process monitoring, and tuning parameters and utilize data historian (trends) to determine root cause of process operation upsetsProvide back-up coverage for Senior SpecialistOperate utility systems in control and compliant with procedures and regulations while optimizing efficiency. Start, stop and regenerate equipment to meet schedule and demand.Troubleshoot and diagnose process problems and take appropriate actions to minimize deviations or site impact Consult on technical issues with operators, engineers, and crafts.Work with Sr. Specialist and Supervisor to ensure scheduled work is executed with consideration for "Emergency work".Reduce Deviations caused by Operations (Out of Window PMs, log sheets, procedures not followed, alarms, etc.)Work directly with contractors, and understanding of requirements of fire cards, safe to work, line breaking, and confined space permits.Actively participate with operations activities associated with improving, modifying, controlling, and implementing GMARS procedures/equipment records, maintenance action plans, ESIs, job plans, and assist with shutdown planning

Utility Operator “CORE” Key Objectives/Deliverables

 

Perform operator-based maintenance, clean equipment, systems, and facilities.Fully use Performance Management to manage objectives and development that align with organizational and corporate priorities.Use of information systems to complete work and communicate with customers (i.e., GMARS, Word, Excel, UMS etc.)Update and maintain operations shift log, daily alarm reports and general communication to the utility’s operations support teamsDemonstrate abilities by completing the Qualified Employee Program training and maintain 100% compliance with training requirements.Comply with all HSE aspects and departmental HSE plans, participate in Safety Improvement activities, report all near miss incidents and meet all annual PSM goals and targets. (i.e. PSSR, GIPSM, CPH, etc.)Position requires strict compliance with safety rules and closely following approved procedures for ensuring cGMP compliance.  All work performed must be documented by following Good Documentation practices.Work with Supervisor and Senior Operators to ensure scheduled work is executedWork with Supervisor and Planner Scheduler to redline Job Plans and procedures.Maintain efficient and effective communications with utilities engineers, operations, and maintenance and support communications between shifts, maintenance, engineering, and automation including site customers to help keep them informed of any issues that could affect themParticipate and actively provide support daily assignment and activities associated with utilities operations process teams, committees, health and safety BBS and individually contribute to achieve all departmental, site, and/or company goals

 

Basic Requirements: 

Must have a mechanical aptitude.Must possess a valid driver’s license.Must be willing to respond to call-in and scheduled overtime work.Must be capable of lifting up to 40 pounds.Must be able to withstand exposure to temperature variations while performing work outside in winter and summer weather conditions.Must have demonstrated teamwork, cooperation, and initiative skills.

High school diploma or equivalent

Other Information:

This position is for shift work, 12 hour days or nights. This includes weekends and holidays.Hazardous operations exist within Utilities, involving acid, steam, caustic, chlorine, high pressure, and high temperatures.  Personal protective equipment is required.Awkward positions, cramped quarters, ladders, and scaffolding work will be required at times.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$21.27 - $46.88

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
