About this Job
The Catering Specialist reports to the Assistant Director of Food Services and works as a member of the LSUS Food Services team. Oversees high-quality catering operations for university events by leading catering staff, ensuring event success, training staff, and maintaining exceptional service standards. Serves as an informal leader and is a resource and mentor student workers in a fast paced, service driven setting. Is detail oriented and maintains accurate electronic and paper records and possesses a passion for hospitality. This summary is not intended to be a comprehensive, or all-inclusive description, of duties and responsibilities. The Catering Specialist is a full time, unclassified, exempt 12-month position.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or a related field.

+ 3 years’ catering or food service experience with medium to large group sizes
+ Serve Safe certification (can be obtained within 6 months)
+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with individuals at all levels.
+ Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
+ Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
+ Previous supervisory experience with entry level workers is preferred.

Job Duties and Other Information
+ Manage logistics, supervise event setups, and train staff on food safety, presentation, and service standards.
+ Supervise and execute catering events from setup to breakdown
+ Resolve guest concerns, maintain positive client relationships
+ Comply with all food preparation regulations and maintain high-quality standards and safety compliance.
+ Assists the Assistant Director with day-to-day activities associated with the Food Services catering operations.
+ Train, guide and mentor student workers and part-time staff
+ Other duties as assigned by the LSUS Food Services leadership team.
Physical and Environmental Demands
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
