Category Manager - Consumables

Fleet Farm is looking for a Consumables Category Manager to help shape the future of our Consumables business, including household goods, cleaning supplies, paper products, personal care, and more.

Position Summary:

The Category Manager – Consumables is responsible for leading the strategy, selection, pricing, and merchandising for our consumables categories across Fleet Farm’s retail stores and digital channels. You will analyze consumer insights and market trends to drive profitable growth and build compelling, data-backed assortments. This role plays a critical part in ensuring Fleet Farm delivers quality, value, and convenience to our customers across all consumables product lines.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead strategic planning and execution of sales, gross profit, inventory, and merchandising goals for assigned consumables categories. Develop and implement assortment, pricing, promotional, and display strategies across in-store and online platforms. Utilize market, competitive, and customer data to identify trends and growth opportunities; translate findings into actionable category initiatives. Negotiate vendor contracts and terms for assigned categories or subcategories. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Store Operations, Planogramming, Inventory Management, and Marketing to deliver cohesive and effective category strategies. Manage SKU productivity, vendor performance, and promotional planning to optimize inventory turnover and profitability. Drive category forecasting and budgeting, including for Fleet Farm’s private label brands within consumables. Monitor and analyze category performance (historical and YTD) to assess and adjust strategies. Recommend core and extended assortments based on product lifecycle, consumer demand, and evolving category trends. Define and execute long-term category vision and strategies that support overall company growth objectives. Take ownership of strategic projects that align with Fleet Farm’s mission and business objectives.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, or related field; or equivalent relevant experience. 3-5 years of category management, merchandising, or retail buying experience—preferably in the consumables or CPG space. Strong analytical skills and experience working with P&L metrics (revenue, gross profit margin, inventory costs). Demonstrated ability to drive results through data analysis, strategic planning, and negotiation. Understanding of customer-centric retailing and consumer purchase behavior. Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint. Retail or omnichannel experience preferred.
