Join Caterpillar’s Earthmoving Supply Management team as a Category Buyer and help shape the future of our North America Light Structures category!


In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of strategic sourcing, working directly with suppliers and cross-functional teams to deliver innovative purchasing solutions. You’ll play a key role in executing our category strategy, using the QCLDM framework (Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, and Management) to drive value and make a measurable impact.

What You Will Do (Job Duties):

Lead with strategy: Take ownership of developing and executing category strategies, managing supplier agreements, sourcing catalogs, and special procurement programs that support long-term success.Drive value: Identify opportunities to reduce costs, optimize inventory, and improve quality—while ensuring business proposals are sound and risks are well-assessed.Negotiate with purpose: Plan and lead negotiations that balance business goals with supplier relationships, aiming for collaborative, win-win outcomes.Be the connector: Serve as the vital link between Caterpillar and our suppliers—ensuring clear, timely communication that aligns with production needs and supplier capabilities.Build strong partnerships: Monitor supplier performance and maintain strong, productive relationships that support on-time delivery and operational excellence.

What You Have (Basic Qualifications):

A Bachelor’s degree and extensive experience in purchasing and commercial functions.

– OR –

Significant hands-on experience in procurement and commercial roles that demonstrates deep industry knowledge and strategic thinking.

– AND –

Effective Communication: Ability to clearly share information across teams and with suppliers to support alignment and timely decision-making.Interpersonal Relationships: Proven experience building collaborative, trust-based relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.Purchasing Tasks & Activities: Solid understanding of procurement processes, including sourcing, supplier management, and contract execution.Data Analytics: Confident analyzing data to inform purchasing decisions, uncover trends, and support ongoing process improvement

Top Candidates Will Have:

Proven procurement expertise with a strong track record in sourcing, supplier management, and executing category strategies.Strong commercial acumen with the ability to assess risk, negotiate effectively, and deliver value across cost, quality, and delivery metrics.Collaborative mindset with excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across cross-functional teams and supplier networks.

Summary Pay Range:

$110,520.00 - $165,840.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
