Description
A commercial real estate organization with a diverse portfolio is seeking an experienced Cash Application Specialist to join its Accounts Receivable team. This role reports to the Accounts Receivable Manager and plays a key part in ensuring accurate cash posting, reconciliations, and tenant account management across multiple property types. This is a hybrid position in Montgomery County, MD
Key Responsibilities
+ Apply daily cash receipts from tenants and vendors across commercial, residential, and retail portfolios
+ Post and reconcile monthly subsidy payments for residential tenants
+ Process returned or rejected payments and resolve related discrepancies
+ Prepare and reconcile bank deposits to ensure accuracy and completeness
+ Assist with the month-end accounts receivable close process
+ Track and support miscellaneous billings related to government agencies, including invoice submission and follow-up
+ Identify delinquent or insufficient payments by preparing and analyzing recurring cash and aging reports
+ Perform full account reconciliations and investigate variances
+ Partner closely with property management teams to support the collection of outstanding balances
+ Serve as a point of contact for tenants regarding billing inquiries, documentation requests, and payment discrepancies
+ Respond to internal and external audit requests and provide supporting documentation as needed
+ Ensure adherence to established accounting procedures, policies, and internal controls
+ Manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment
+ Support additional accounting projects and ad hoc initiatives as assigned
Requirements
+ High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred
+ Minimum of 4+ years of accounts receivable experience, preferably within commercial real estate or property management
+ Strong proficiency in Excel and spreadsheet-based analysis
+ Experience with real estate accounting or property management systems strongly preferred (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or similar)
+ Highly organized, detail-oriented, and accountable for accuracy and timeliness of work
+ Proactive, self-directed team player with strong follow-through
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Comfortable interacting with tenants, property management teams, and internal stakeholders at all levels
+ Ability to manage competing priorities and meet daily, monthly, and ad hoc deadlines
