Reporting Relationship: Family Services Supervisor/Director of Social Services

Salary/Grade: 72, NE

Position Overview:

The Salvation Army Reading Corps is seeking a caseworker to provide case management and emergency crisis assistance to families in need.  Caseworkers are trained in programs designated to help individuals and families overcome barriers leading to self-sufficiency, such as utility disconnects, rental assistance, utility customer assistance programs, prescriptions, photo ID’s, busspasses, and home heating assistance.   Maintain small responsibilities within The Salvation Army’s Food Pantry Program.

 

Description of Position: 

 Provide explanation of all required documentation for appointments and program eligibilityInterview clients following established procedures to determine eligibility for programsComplete thorough intake assessment of each participant appropriatelySchedule appointments as neededConduct home visits/inspections for various programsUpdate files for each program participantObtain and copy documentation required by each program. Maintain accurate filing systemUse computer to complete the prescreening and application process for utility programsMake appropriate referrals to community resourcesMaintain accurate records in the Social Services Program and other databasesAssist in the distribution of food, clothing or other donated items as appropriate, including Holiday AssistanceMaintain organization within the food pantry based on food pantry policies and proceduresRotate food by the FIFO system (First in, First Out)Fill in at reception desk as needed. Answer phones and direct calls as necessary.Coordinate with other staff members for cohesive service deliveryMaintain client confidentiality at all timesTreat all coworkers, clients and community members, etc. with the utmost respectEnsure clients experience a sense of dignity, importance and know that they are cared forSeek opportunities to improve services, processes and proceduresWork collaboratively within the organization and with other community partner agenciesMaintain accurate client files/dataMaintain the security of all client files and information at all timesSeek opportunities to offer spiritual care / refer clients to corps officers for this purpose as appropriateRepresent The Salvation Army, the church and service programs in a professional and caring mannerMust maintain the highest standards of integrity at all timesAssist other staff and leadership in the development and maintenance of accurate processes and procedures, updated forms, etc.Participate in professional development opportunities as requested for social services/technical skills improvement, attend social services conferences, present information to staff or other groups as requestedPerforms all other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Requirements:  

 Valid PA State Driver’s LicenseAssociates Degree or High school diploma with 2 years related experienceComputer proficiency with various software programs such as MS Office and internet based programs.Bilingual Spanish/English, verbally and written highly preferred to best serve the communityPrior experience in Social Service delivery is an asset Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks prior to employment: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check along with renewals every five years.Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
