Caretaker and Groundskeeper

Cambridge Regional College has an exciting opportunity for a Caretaker to join our Facilities and Estates team at our Cambridge and Huntingdon Campuses. You will join us on a Full-Time (37 hours), full year basis and in return you will receive a competitive salary of £23,519 per annum, plus staff benefits.

The primary duties, tasks and responsibilities of this job role are to;

General Maintenance

Assist in maintaining the physical condition of the buildings, furniture and equipment.Carry out cleaning & janitorial tasks throughout the College, as required, using specialist cleaning equipment, when necessary.Conduct checks of the College's appearance and carry out extra cleaning duties as required, when necessary.Assist with distribution of post, packages & deliveries.Monitor that College buildings are adequately heated and report faults.Assist in ensuring adequate lighting is available by replacing light bulbs and tubes as necessary.Assist in the checks, maintenance and repairs to grounds, buildings, fixtures, furniture and equipment as required.Report the need for specialist repairs to line manager.Direct and supervise tradesmen and contractors to the sites of repair and maintenance work.Clear blockages of drains and gullies as required.Clear snow from grounds and salts stairs, paths, and roads, ensuring safe access to the College.Assist in ensuring all Caretaking equipment is in safe working order.Assist in providing emergency cover, i.e. disaster recovery etc.Maintain access to the College in cases of emergency. Site Security Assist in ensuring the security of the buildings and their contents and provide access to the buildings and the grounds of the College to authorised persons.Switch lights on/off, open/close windows and internal doors as required.Report any unauthorised people. 

Perform Porterage Duties

 Lay out furniture and equipment for exams, in-house activities and functions and clear up after these activities within normal working hours.Move furniture and equipment as required. Accept & assist with distribution of post, packages & deliveries

Maintain Safe Working Practices as defined by Current Health and Safety Legislation  Carry out emergency procedures in case of fire, flood, accident or major incident acting as Fire Marshall if required. Ensure that health and safety standards are maintained at all times and advise the Health & Safety Officer of potential risk areas. Undertake Electrical Safety Testing. Provider Driver Assessment of College Vehicles. Water testing/flushing

Customer Care

Develop and maintain the high standards of customer care in all areas of responsibility.Act at all times in the best interest of the College to further good relations.

Staff Development

 Take part in the Staff Appraisal process. Understand and work towards individual, team and business objectives.

Other Accountabilities

To maintain professional standards in relationships, including non- discriminatory practices, and to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion.Actively support the College’s values, policies and procedures, particularly responding to those relating to health and safety, safeguarding, equality and diversity, data protection and GDPR.Be familiar with and promote safeguarding requirements, as outlined in the Safeguarding Policy and Procedure and ensure you undertake appropriate training provided by the College.Carry out such duties and responsibilities under the Health and safety at Work (etc) Act 1974 and associated legislation as described in the College’s Health and Safety policy documentsAdhere to the Risk Management Policy and to notify your line manager of any identified risk.Such other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as may be reasonably required at any of the College locations.

This post is defined as regulated activity. The postholder is required to hold an enhanced DBS disclosure check deemed acceptable to the College.
