Capital Markets Data Lead
Pay Rate: $87 Location: Toronto ON Job Type: Contract

Our client, a Top 5 Canadian Bank, is looking to hire a Professional - Governance and Compliance (Capital Markets Data Lead) for a 6-month contract (with potential extension based on performance and business needs). This is a hybrid position based in Toronto, with in-office work required three days per week (Wednesday fixed, two flexible).

Responsibilities
 

Lead data management activities for assigned Asset Classes and Data Domains as part of the Capital Markets Data Governance Program. Deliver the Data Governance Program stream, ensuring priority datasets are brought under governance by completing metadata, data quality, and data access management activities. Partner with Business Analysts, SMEs, and Technology Leads to define in-scope data assets, identify Critical Data Elements (CDEs), and map them to business glossaries Define and implement Business Data Quality (DQ) rules, perform data profiling and analysis, and refine executable DQ rules through stakeholder reviews. Identify and document controls for data access and sharing (internal and external), ensuring compliance with governance standards. Support and/or organize regular Working Group meetings to track delivery plans, milestones, dependencies, and issues. Act as a subject matter expert providing data governance and quality guidance to business leaders across Capital Markets. Conduct Data Capability Maturity Assessments and contribute to continuous improvement of governance practices. Provide thought leadership for one or more Data Management disciplines (e.g., Metadata Management, Data Quality, Data Access & Sharing, DQ Automation). Collaborate with other teams and external partners to define and enhance enterprise-wide data management approaches.

Must-Have Skills 3-5 years of relevant experience in data governance, metadata management, or data quality roles. Strong hands-on experience with Databricks, Purview, Alteryx, Power BI, VBA, Power Query, and dashboard optimization. Proven ability to build dashboards and develop automated solutions to identify and remediate data control gaps. Proficiency in data profiling, analysis, and creation of executable DQ rules. Experience working with multiple business and technology stakeholders in complex organizational environments. Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, and the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel - VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, VBA; Visio). Strong analytical and technical acumen with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear, business-friendly language. Capital Markets experience preferred.

Nice-to-Have Skills Knowledge of BCBS 239 (RDAR) and jurisdictional regulations such as Dodd-Frank, EMIR, MiFID, CAT NMS, and IIROC. Prior experience in a Big 5 Canadian financial institution within a data governance or regulatory project. Working experience with Microsoft Purview. Background as a Business Systems Analyst or experience performing testing in data-related projects.
