SUMMARYProvides technical expertise and assistance to the Cancer Committee in the interpretation and implementation of the American College of Surgeonrsquos ACOS Commission on Cancer COC accreditation standards Manages the Cancer Registry activities within the Cancer Services Department to ensure compliance with the American College of Surgeon ACOS Commission on Cancer COC and State of Connecticut Cancer Registry requirements Responsible for organizing the Cancer Committee Cancer Conferences and Cancer Registry operationsCOMPETENCIESThe level of knowledgeskills must be continually updated to remain proficient and accurate in the collection of data specific to the Cancer Registry as well as the CoC Cancer Program Accreditation StandardsStrong personal computer skills with Microsoft Office Word and Outlook and experience with cancer registry software are also highly desirableMust be able to read speak and write proficiently in English to effectively communicate daily with hospital staff the American College of Surgeons Commission on CancerThe Cancer disease process and standard diagnostic tests for detecting and treating such human anatomy medical terminologyThe content and use of patient medical records patient histories and treatment modalitiesThe International Classification of Disease for Oncology ICD O coding system medical and surgical terminology personal computers and automatic data processing techniquesMust keep abreast of changes in reference materials and current literature relative to the cancer registry and the CoC Accreditation standardsAttend continuing education programs maintaining up to date reference manuals and demonstrating a working knowledge of new and revised procedures for compliance with accrediting agencies and the state cancer registryResponsible for providing strategic direction to the Comprehensive Cancer Committee in collaboration with the Cancer Committee Chairpersons to assure continued accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer AcoS CoCLead accreditation process and formulate action plans to address deficiencies in partnership with department and physician leadersResponsible for serving as content expert for cancer accreditation and cancer registryProvide department and operational leadership with best practice recommendationsResponsible for achieving continued accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer AcoS CoCResponsible for overseeing cancer registry operations including national data submissions data quality assurance reviews interpretation of regulatory standards and overall program managementPartner with physician leaders to leverage cancer registry data to support monitoring and improvement of cancer care and research into cancer treatment and care deliveryResearch upcoming changes related to quality regulatory or accreditation requirements that relate to the cancer program and develop strategies to proactively meet new requirementsOversee compliance with all local state and federal regulatory cancer data reporting and its impact on the cancer programLead departmental quality improvement projects in cancer registry and accreditation performanceTrain staff as necessary to create depth to continued uninterrupted registry servicesAttend Cancer Committee meetings and ensure cancer committee composition meeting schedule agenda and minutes meet the CoC StandardsMaintain documentation of all Cancer Committee activities using minutes and program activity in preparation for surveyServe as the Cancer Conference Coordinator for the Cancer CommitteeAssist in the coordination and documentation of all Cancer ConferencesAssist in maintaining quality assurance pertinent to the cancer program and cancer registryPerform quality control audits as necessary to meet requirements of the State of Connecticut and AcoS guidelinesPrepare and distribute statistical reports on the programrsquos cancer patient population when requestedSupervise daily operations of the Cancer RegistryDevelop and implement policies and procedures pertinent to the Cancer RegistryIdentify all appropriate cancer cases diagnosed andor treated at ECHNAssist and oversee the accurate abstraction for all required data items in accordance with the State of Connecticut and the AcoS CoC abstracting and staging guidelines ICD O coding rules Seer Summary Staging and AJCC staging guidelinesMaintain current and accurate follow up as required by the AcoSEnsure accuracy and ability to maintain security of registry data and patient confidentialityOngoing analysis of system and proposes appropriate changes in mechanism of case finding data entry and report generation as neededResponsible for maintaining knowledge of
