About Business Unit:
The International Governance & Control Regulatory Reporting team supports American Express’ international issuing and acquiring businesses across 27+ countries. The team plays a critical role in ensuring a strong first line of defense by maintaining an effective risk and control framework while enabling sustainable business growth.
Operating within a dynamic and evolving regulatory landscape - particularly across European markets - the team oversees regulatory reporting obligations, manages risk in a changing environment, and partners closely with multiple stakeholders across the organization. The focus is on strengthening governance, enhancing regulatory reporting processes, and driving automation and efficiency initiatives to support scalable and sustainable operations.
Key activities will include:
Gain exposure to the complex European regulatory landscape impacting payments institutions across multiple markets.
Support the team in managing regulatory reporting obligations and maintaining the European Regulatory Reports inventory.
Identify opportunities for process optimization to enhance efficiency, streamline tasks, and eliminate non-value-added activities leveraging AI. Assist in accelerating the implementation of automated solutions and perform quality assurance checks.
Contribute to end-to-end, multi-market project management initiatives supporting critical regulatory and control-related programs.
Analyze data, extract key insights, and help translate complex discussions into clear summaries and actionable outputs.
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and support in the documentation of processes and procedures.
Desirable Qualifications/Skills & Experience/Language Requirements:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
Ability to think critically and assess complex regulatory and risk scenarios from multiple perspectives.
Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint (required). Use of AI capabilities a strong upside.
Ability to understand complex topics, synthesize key discussion points, and prepare clear and concise documentation/minutes.
Interest in process optimization; ability to implement technical solutions to enhance efficiency.
Understanding of data analytics concepts; basic knowledge of relational databases and SQL is a plus.
Strong collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams and stakeholders.
Self-motivated, adaptable, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
Positive, proactive, and solution-oriented attitude.

Alongside your internship you will be enrolled on programme coordinated by Fundación Universidad Empresa (FUE). This programme will allow students to focus on productivity, adaptive management and innovation, to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting, collaborating directly on the management and optimization of commercial processes. The student will develop essential skills in project management, data analysis, and negotiation, which are critical for future integration into the labor market. To enroll to the programme, the candidate must have completed the degree or due to submit the final degree project, or the final degree project plus 9 ECTS max.
