We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Camera Validation Engineer with strong expertise in the development and testing of camera and display systems within the consumer electronics industry. In this role, you will play a key part in integrating and optimizing next-generation Computer Vision and RGB cameras as well as see-through display systems for both current and future smart wearable and augmented reality devices. Your work will directly contribute to advancing the capabilities and quality of cutting-edge wearable and augmented reality products.
You will be a key contributor to system-level validation efforts for optics across emerging wearable technologies. Your responsibilities will include designing and executing tests, analyzing data, and conducting both objective and subjective evaluations of camera system performance encompassing hardware and software components of the imaging pipeline. Additionally, you will provide expert hand-on support for system and user-level characterization and calibration, as well as occasional manufacturing test support at partner sites.
Work Experience
Minimum qualifications
· Master's Degree in Imaging Science, Mechanical, Electrical, Optical, Image Processing or related fields.
· 3+ years of experience as a test engineer validating against image/video quality test metrics and calibrating compact optical systems.
· Hands-on experience working in an optical lab environment, creating, maintaining and operating sensitive measurement setups for data acquisition
· Knowledgeable about industry image quality test protocols and standards in the market with a background in lab testing and analysis for industry standard camera and display metrics.
· Experience implementing and debugging image quality test infrastructure (hardware, charts, software, automation, opto-mechanical components, motion control stages and precision alignment components, optical filters, lenses, sources etc.) and evaluation platforms (such as Imatest)
· Comfortable with coding using Python. Working knowledge with Python libraries like pandas, numpy, opencv etc. Learning mindset to explore and use new libraries as required.
· Familiar with ADB commands for debugging and data acquisition
· Clear, responsive and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Analytical problem-solver and independent thinker. Excellent at generating accurate, informative and insightful reports that aid the development teams with root-causing and improving their HW and SW.
· Positive can-do attitude with the ability to juggle and prioritize multiple asks from a large cross functional team.
Bonus points for -
· 5+ years of experience and an imaging science background.
· Familiarity with the HW development of image sensors, optics, display engines and their evaluation methodologies
· Knowledgeable about overall system level interactions in the imaging and display pipeline within a consumer product that contains multiple sensor modalities and corresponding data processing.
· Basic knowledge of optical simulation tools and mechanical design software for test design.
· Experience evaluating performance optical HW, image processing techniques, ISP (Image Signal Processor) blocks for mobile camera products.
· Hands-on experience prototyping with macro-scale imaging test targets, interfacing fixtures for sensor devices, off-the-shelf optomechanical components (e.g. Thorlabs, Edmund, Newport)
· Hands-on experience debugging image quality issues, finding root causes, and familiarity with image quality artifacts
· Hands-on experience in device bring up and debugging including FW flashing, shell / batch programming, software scripting to facilitate data acquisition, logging and processing.
