The successful candidate will be part of the camera team innovating, developing and integrating hardware and algorithms for future generations of HMD devices.
**Required Skills:**
Camera Systems Validation Engineer Responsibilities:
1. Develop, validate, and characterize imaging systems through objective and subjective image quality analysis
2. Design and implement new test setups and algorithms for image quality evaluation
3. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure test readiness, including test chart and condition design, algorithm implementation, and hardware bring-up
4. Develop and execute camera validation and test plans in coordination with vendors
5. Develop automation test scripts, implement metric algorithms, and conduct data analysis using C/C++, Python, or MATLAB
6. Oversee data collection, processing algorithm development, test automation, and result reporting
7. Manage external vendors for test setup, design validation, design reviews, and production ramp-up
8. Conduct camera debugging, root cause analysis, and problem-solving to support product development
9. Communicate and report key deliverables to cross-functional teams to drive design improvements
10. Travel up to 25% domestically and internationally as required
**Minimum Qualifications:**

11. Bachelor’s degree in Photography, Imaging Science, Color Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
12. 2+ years of experience in image and video quality testing, including metrics, algorithms, and evaluation methods for benchmarking or camera characterization (sensor, lens, module, and device)
13. Hands-on experience in developing, implementing, and troubleshooting image quality test infrastructure, including hardware, test charts, software, automation, opto-mechanical components, motion control stages, precision alignment components, optical filters (e.g., bandpass, IR cut-off), and lenses
14. Proficiency in using evaluation platforms such as DXO, Imatest, and IQ Analyzer
15. Understanding of quality systems, process capability, and yield analysis
16. Knowledge of camera module fabrication and familiarity with camera hardware components: image sensor, lens, IRCF, VCM/AF actuator, etc
17. Familiarity with industry standard camera testing methods (MTF, shading, focus, etc.)

18. Experience with MATLAB, Python, or C/C++ for operating lab systems, implementing algorithms, automating lab processes, and handling data collection and analysis
19. Proficiency in statistical data analysis and familiarity with camera data analysis methodologies, including JMP
20. Hands-on industry experience with Augmented Reality (AR) or Virtual Reality (VR) products
21. Experience in lens and opto-mechanical design, including tolerance analysis and stray light evaluation
22. Background in high-volume production and test environments
23. Experience with lens metrology tools such as TriOptics ImageMaster HR, OptiCentric, Pro9/Pro10, as well as optical system metrology techniques, including colorimetry, photoradiometry, integrating spheres, and spectrophotometry
24. Practical experience in prototyping with macro-scale imaging test targets, interfacing fixtures for sensor devices, and integrating off-the-shelf optomechanical components (e.g., Thorlabs, Edmund, Newport)
25. Understanding of sensors and optics, including their evaluation methodologies
