**About the Role:**
As the IT Data Center Technician, you will provide on-site support for the delivery and maintenance of DCS Information Technology (IT) services within the Data Center environment. Serve as the first responder to investigate any issues or concerns related to the Data Center systems. Activities include conducting fault diagnostics/rectifying hardware failures and network channel connectivity. Install, move, and decommission DCS IT equipment such as servers, switches, and routers. Perform cable installation, hardware upgrades, and replace failed components. Conduct general maintenance and housekeeping of the DCS IT services.
This role is part of the Critical and Specialized Services job function. This job function provides technical maintenance services in critical client environments such as Data Centers, Laboratories, Oil Rigs, Trade Floors, etc.
**What You’ll Do:**
• Perform hardware (rack/stack) and cable installations (routing, terminating, structured cabling), including troubleshooting and testing. Also, perform hardware decommissions and cable removal.
• Coordinate DCS IT asset redundant power requirements with appropriate facilities staff. Ensure proper load balance and fail-over capacity to avoid cascading failures.
• Prepare and coordinate incoming and outgoing shipments. Compare packing lists with purchase details to ensure accurate make, model, and quantities are received and processed.
• Perform remote hands support for example power cycles, physical environment, and cabling inspections. Swap out failed components, do hardware upgrades, test copper and fiber cables, handle storage media, and enter troubleshooting commands.
• Grant site access to vendors and/or escort 3rd parties requiring Data Center access for approved activities. Ensure their compliance with site standards.
• Impact through clearly defined duties, and methods and tasks are described in detail.
• Deliver own output by following defined procedures and processes under close supervision and guidance.
• Carry out daily housekeeping checks of the data halls, and record findings.
• Support Service Management and related processes (e.g., Service Request, Incident, Change) by creating, updating, approving, and closing associated assigned tickets.
• Ensure that Method Statements and Risk Assessments are always prepared and used for all tasks ensuring safe work practices.
• Follow basic work routines and standards in application of work.
• Comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding.
• Learn new technologies and expand and share this knowledge.
• Communicate straightforward information and respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co- workers, and/or supervisor.
• Use existing procedures to solve straightforward problems with supervisor guidance.
• Write routine reports and correspondence
**What You’ll Need:**
• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred. 2-4 years of experience in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Management or a related field.
• Accredited training in the installation of copper and fiber structured cabling systems, preferred. Previous experience using Remedy, DCIM tools and BMS systems preferred.
• Knowledge of the Data Center environment, and the working restrictions of these environments.
• A good understanding of fault diagnostic techniques including the use of handheld test equipment.
• Basic knowledge of financial terms and principles required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
