Cable Bolt Operator

Loulo Gold Mine are seeking to recruit Cable Bolt Operators to join and grow our team. The key duties of the Cable Bolt Operator are to operate the Cable Bolting Rig for the installation of ground support in the mine according to quality specifications, safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

Comply with Barrick’s established health and safety policies, procedures, practices and Occupational Health and Safety Acts.

Visibly practice safety leadership through leading by example.

Actively ensure a safe environment for yourself, your peers and local communities through regular communication and due diligence.

Promptly report and correct unsafe acts and conditions.

Actively ensure that fatal risks are understood and critical controls are maintained.

Drilling ground support holes, installing cables, and grouting in accordance with mine ground support specifications.

Avoid over-drilling and under-drilling by working in accordance with standards, plans, layouts, and geotechnical requirements.

Follow mark-ups in accordance with geological, statutory, and survey specifications.

Work with technical and supervisory staff on all quality and safety initiatives.

Ensure end-of-shift reports are completed and up to date.

Perform visual inspections of equipment before and during operation in accordance with procedures to minimize breakdowns and operational losses through timely reporting of defects or abnormalities to the Supervisor.

Operate equipment in accordance with relevant mining requirements and Standard Operating Procedures to achieve daily bolting targets.

Maintaining efficient housekeeping of equipment and work areas.

Training and development of trainee underground operators.

Qualification Requirements

High School or equivalent qualification.

Relevant Cable Bolter competency certification.

Experience and Skills Requirements

Minimum of 5 years’ practical experience of operating a Cable Bolter in an underground mining environment.

Underground drilling knowledge and skills.

Previous operation of Sandvik Cable Bolters.

Ability to read and understand Cable Bolt layouts.

Strong knowledge & understanding of ground support standards.

Sound knowledge and experience of underground mining practices and operations.

Knowledge of Safety, Health and Environmental legislation and standards applicable to underground mining.

Strong interpersonal and training skills with an uncompromising safety ethic and a focus on quality first.
