The Buyer – Raw Materials is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing the supply of raw materials required for production. This role ensures materials are ordered on time, at the right quality, quantity, and cost, while maintaining accurate data within the company’s ERP system. The Buyer will collaborate closely with production, planning, quality, and suppliers to support efficient manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
+ Source and procure raw materials needed for production while ensuring optimal cost, quality, and supplier reliability.
+ Manage purchase orders from creation to delivery, including issuing POs in the ERP system, tracking order status, and resolving discrepancies.
+ Monitor raw material inventory levels and collaborate with production planning to ensure adequate supply and prevent shortages or overstocking.
+ Evaluate supplier performance and maintain strong vendor relationships to support consistent material flow and continuous improvement.
+ Analyze material usage, lead times, and purchase trends using Excel to support forecasting and planning decisions.
+ Review and process ERP-generated demand signals, exception messages, and planning recommendations.
+ Partner with Quality and Operations to address material issues, nonconformances, or required corrective actions.
+ Support cost‑reduction initiatives, negotiate pricing, and participate in supplier selection efforts.
+ Maintain accurate data within the ERP system, including item details, pricing, lead times, and supplier information.
+ Prepare reports, dashboards, and spend analysis using Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, basic formulas, etc.).
Required Skills & Qualifications
+ 2+ years of experience in purchasing, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
+ Hands-on experience buying raw materials such as metals, plastics, chemicals, or other production inputs.
+ Strong proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, or similar).
+ Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis).
+ Strong negotiation, communication, and vendor management abilities.
+ Ability to analyze data, interpret demand signals, and make informed purchasing decisions.
+ Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time‑management skills.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of New Berlin, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $62000.00 - $68000.00/yr.
