Job Summary
The Buyer II is responsible for managing MRP to ensure materials supply aligns with demand while supporting the optimization of overall material costs. This role actively develops the supply base, drives sourcing strategies, and supports cross‑functional supply chain initiatives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develop supply base and supply chain strategies tailored to customer needs or Business Unit strategic materials.
Support customer requirements using standard processes when possible and customized solutions when necessary. Partner with the Purchasing Manager and SCM to determine best‑fit approaches and influence customer supply chain strategies to leverage Jabil capabilities.
Communicate Jabil expectations to suppliers. Conduct supplier audits/visits, certifications, and performance reviews to develop and continuously improve the supply base. Gather feedback from Materials Planners on delivery, quality, and service performance.
Support, execute, and provide input to Jabil SCM initiatives and strategies for ongoing improvement.
Quote new and existing materials; collaborate with the Materials Quotation Analyst as needed. Perform frequent re‑quotes and negotiations to leverage cost‑reduction opportunities.
Make sourcing decisions based on overall cost and benefit, including price, duty, freight, flexibility, service, performance, quality, and terms & conditions.
Negotiate terms and conditions that protect Jabil’s and the customer’s best interests, including liability terms, stocking arrangements, and non‑standard agreements.
Ensure execution of Jabil pricing agreements and terms & conditions, including World Wide Purchasing Agreements.
Improve sourcing options by partnering with internal resources and customers to add preferred and strategic suppliers to the customer’s Approved Manufacturer List (AML).
Analyze and project component purchase prices to accurately represent inventory value during the Standard Costing process.
Provide input to determine Quoted Cost to the Customer that is competitive while maximizing Materials Price Variance (MPV).
Continuously optimize MPV by reducing material costs and minimizing unfavorable PPV/MPV. Coordinate with the BUM to obtain customer approval for additional material‑related expenses.
Collaborate with Materials Planners to monitor, track, and report supplier performance for continuous improvement.
Ensure suppliers support Jabil’s overall business requirements.
Adhere to all safety, health, and company security policies and procedures.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field; OR a minimum of 2+ years of buyer experience in a manufacturing environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong analytical and mathematical ability, including proficiency with percentages, ratios, algebraic concepts, and geometric calculations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Effective communication skills, including the ability to present information to groups of managers, clients, and customers.
Ability to write clear correspondence and interpret visual instructions.
Proficiency using Windows‑based operating systems and related software; advanced PC skills required.
Ability to use judgment, follow instructions, and manage standardized situations with limited variables.
