Job Description

The Buyer will be responsible for collaborating with both internal and external customers to identify necessary materials and parts for purchase. Daily tasks include reviewing purchase lists, making informed purchasing decisions through sourcing and research activities with suppliers, and managing purchase orders. The role involves close cooperation with customer service, engineering, and production teams to ensure smooth operations.

Responsibilities

Review needs from internal customers and make buying decisions based on the supply base.Address concerns and issues with suppliers and involve management when necessary.Communicate future needs to suppliers to support their preparation.Track and report supplier performance.Review engineering drawings and blueprints and engage with suppliers to minimize back and forth communication.Utilize Excel to clean up system data and create reports for team and management.

Essential Skills

2-3 years of buying and sourcing experience.Proficiency in negotiation, particularly in having challenging conversations with suppliers.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.Strong Excel skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with Aptean ERP systems.Bachelor's Degree.Metal fabrication experience

Work Environment

The position requires working from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Initial training will be conducted on-site every day for the first month, transitioning to a hybrid schedule of 3 days in the office and 2 days at home. The team consists of 4 people, and the role supports 22 customer service personnel, 6 engineers, and various production managers. The work environment comprises 120 people at the Walker site and a total of 250 company-wide.

This is a Contract position based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $32.00/hr.
