Job Description
The Business Segment Finance Director serves as the site finance lead for two major programmable power manufacturing segments, representing a significant portion of the business unit’s annual revenue. This hands-on, operational finance leadership role focuses on delivering accurate financial reporting, driving business performance, and ensuring strong cost accounting, inventory control, and SOX compliance in a complex manufacturing environment. The person in this role partners closely with operations and cross-functional leaders and plays a key role in forecasting, budgeting, and long-range strategic decision-making.
ResponsibilitiesOwn the full profit and loss statement, balance sheet, and cash flow for two manufacturing segments, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial results.Lead a one-day month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, flux and variance analysis, and segment-level financial reporting.Oversee all product cost accounting activities, including standard costing, bills of materials (BOMs), purchase price variance (PPV), labor backflush, absorption, and manufacturing variance analysis.Own inventory valuation and control processes, including physical inventory counts, cycle counts, and excess and obsolete (E&O) reserve management across multiple inventory organizations.Lead weekly and monthly forecasting for orders, revenue, margin, and working capital, providing timely and actionable insights to business leadership.Support the annual budgeting process and long-range strategic planning cycles, including development of a three-year financial outlook.Prepare and present segment-level financial statements and operating reviews to business unit leadership, Corporate Finance, and senior executive stakeholders.Ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX, and ASC 606, including coordination of internal and external audits and maintenance of appropriate documentation.Review and approve capital expenditure requests, track return on investment (ROI), and provide financial guidance on capital allocation decisions.Drive continuous process improvements across finance and operations, identifying opportunities to streamline processes and enhance financial controls.Mentor, develop, and support finance talent across domestic, near-shore, and offshore teams, contributing to succession planning and organizational capability building.Partner closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Executive Leadership to improve business performance and support strategic initiatives.Leverage ERP systems and financial tools to enhance financial reporting, analysis, and decision support in a complex manufacturing environment.Provide clear, compelling financial storytelling and executive-level presentations that translate financial data into business insights and actions.Essential SkillsMinimum 10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience within a manufacturing environment.Proven experience as a finance director, assistant finance director, senior finance manager, or equivalent role with ownership of profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow.Demonstrated leadership in a fast month-end close environment, including responsibility for full close processes.Strong standard costing background, including deep understanding of how manufacturing costs flow through financial statements.Hands-on experience with bills of materials (BOMs), purchase price variance (PPV), labor backflush, absorption, and inventory variance analysis.Inventory accounting expertise, including valuation, cycle counts, physical inventory counts, and management of excess and obsolete (E&O) reserves.Demonstrated SOX compliance ownership in a public company environment, including experience with compliance and documentation.Strong knowledge of GAAP, SOX, and ASC 606, with experience in monthly and quarterly closings and revenue recognition.ERP experience in a complex manufacturing environment, with Oracle strongly preferred.Strong executive communication and financial storytelling skills, including experience presenting financials to CFO-level and corporate finance leaders.Ability to operate in a matrixed, multi-site environment while driving accountability and maintaining a collaborative, business-focused approach.Track record of talent development and succession planning within finance teams.Ability to operate in a hands-on manner while also presenting confidently at an executive level.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.Minimum 3 years of experience in a manager-level role or above overseeing finance or accounting teams.Additional Skills & QualificationsProfessional certifications such as CPA or CMA are highly valued.Experience with Hyperion Financial Management or similar financial consolidation and reporting tools.Experience in global manufacturing environments and familiarity with multi-site operations.Demonstrated capability in capital expenditure (capex) evaluation and ROI analysis.Proficiency with business intelligence tools such as Power BI for financial reporting and analytics.Strong presentation skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex financial concepts to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.Comfort working in a fast-paced, performance-oriented culture with a high degree of ownership and accountability.Work Environment
