OVERVIEW:
The Business Director has the responsibility to successfully lead all areas of business operations for The Salvation Army Modesto Corps. In the absence of the Modesto City Coordinator, the Business Director has full and direct responsibility for any and all business operations and programs as assigned by The Salvation Army Modesto Corps. The Business Director advises and makes recommendations to the City Coordinator regarding overall departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Leads strategic planning to evaluate and expand programs, increase fundraising opportunities and streamline procedures, and policies. The purpose of the Business Director position is to provide a consistent executive and ministry driving force throughout all unit locations and to represent The Salvation Army of Modesto in the community. The Business Director will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army of Modesto in the community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage all business and finance operations for Modesto Corps under the direction and supervision of the Modesto City Coordinators. Support the City Coordinators and the HR coordinator in the management of Human Resources, including benefits, payroll, hires, terminations, reviews, etc. Support and foster a culture of integrity, unity and excellence within The Salvation Army among its employees Advisory Board members, committees and extended community groups. Identify opportunities to expand services where funding is available to grow the impact of The Salvation Army in Modesto. Increase fundraising opportunities through strategic planning. Provide an oversight of the grants and contracts and finance personnel. Provide oversight into and develop senior staff. Evaluate all senior staff and manage a continuous improvement plan. Responsible for senior staff performance/oversight and staff development. Work with City Coordinators and other senior personnel to both prepare and oversee the process of submission for all grants as appropriate for the programs in operation at the Modesto Corps. Act as a collaborator and liaison with community partners, City, County and State personnel regarding funding grants and awards to ensure contract compliance and goodwill. Perform ongoing operational review to ensure compliance with Salvation Army or US Government and other agency regulatory policies. Upgrade or change department functions as required. Evaluate, look to grow and extend existing programs. Work with and provide information for all auditors, including outside C.P.A. firms, internal audits, government – Federal, State, County and City audits or reviewers. Work with City Coordinator, all Salvation Army program directors, managers and other Officers on the creation and monitoring of budgets and grant funding as well as requirements. Perform financial analysis to ensure solvent operations through revenue requirements, existing or future awards and control of department expenses and approved budgets for all departments of the Modesto Corps. Provide monthly Statement of Activities and a trial balance for all units and provide customized statements for the finance committee of the Advisory Board. Maintain inventories of all Modesto Corps properties and vehicles. Produce and Publish Annual Report Attend Advisory Board meetings and events as requested by the City Coordinators. The Modesto Corps Business Director will be required to adhere to all Salvation Army Policies and Procedures as established by the Salvation Army, A California Corporation. Management and involvement in all fundraising activities. Provide oversight to the administrative assistant\events coordinator and other personnel as assigned in the absence of the City Coordinators. Will liaise and maintain a positive working relationship with all personnel of the supervising headquarters, representing the City Coordinators as you do. This will include finance, human resources, property, contracts, legal, social services and designated Salvation Army officers including Divisional leadership. Other duties as assigned by the Modesto City Coordinators.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree in business preferred Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of experience required Excellent verbal and written communication skills Positive teambuilding and excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate a must Proficient in business computer applications including MS Office suite applications and Shelby accounting software. (Shelby preferred). Willing to learn Salvation Army required systems to perform duties of the job successfully. Extensive knowledge of accounting, strategic planning and fundraising Demonstrate a working knowledge of budgeting, finance reporting and forecasting, interpersonal communications, applications of information technology, external relations, risk management and fleet management Show proficiency in government contracts, including writing, completing and tracking grants. Must maintain a valid Class C driver's license and be available to drive on occasion in related job duties.SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
