Position Summary:
The Commercial area Business Control Office is responsible to identify, document, mitigate and monitor any risk exposure that could materialized on the normal course of business of the Commercial Area. This position reports to the Head of Commercial Director and Head of Business Control Officer leads a group of functions that could vary from operational, credit, compliance and suitability risk. Develops and executes plans for providing excellent levels of service to internal areas, managing first line of defense responsibilities to ensure the Commercial Area knows, manages and mitigates the inherent risks of the business.
Responsibilities include developing new processes, procedures and guidelines, ensuring the area performs in compliance with policies, procedures and any guidelines established by Risk Management.
Position Duties / Responsibilities
1LOD Governance - Business Control Office
Develop and establish activities for the area focusing on the development and execution of effective 1LOD risk mitigation strategies, including a control testing strategy, a comprehensive Risk Identification and Assessment process (RCSA), establishment of Key Reporting Indicators and Metrics, and appropriate Vendor Management routines.
Contribute to satisfactory results in audit reviews, compliance reviews, and regulatory examinations (internal/external), Compliance and Regulatory Agency reviews.
Oversee the Clients Complaints process ensuring adequate and timely responses are given to customers and also ensuring metrics are maintained and analyzed in order to identify possible areas of exposure for the Bank.
Manages all business open issues and closely oversee their remediation to facilitate timely and sustainable closure, in line with consolidated first line of defense issue management process
1LOD Risk mitigation activities
Ensure appropriate structures, disciplines and routines are in place for the execution of Santander’s Risk Framework within the area, to ensure control improvements to reduce levels of risk and loss.
Communicates effectively with Commercial Leadership to promote area’s Risk Framework.
Ensure identification, mitigation and monitoring of all risks types are managed and reported to the Commercial Director on a consistent basis. Manage FLOD team including responsibilities from Compliance, Credit, Fiduciary and Operational risks disciplines.
Ensures effective controls are in place (SOX, non-financial, policies & procedures, compliance, regulatory safety and soundness) and recognize/escalate gaps in the control infrastructure to executive management; develop and execute remediation plans.
Guarantee all controls are functioning as designed and ensure policies and procedures are followed at all times.
Support and implement identity Theft prevention activities
Report Operational Risk Events and assist with the investigations
Facilitate the escalation, reporting and communication of key operational risk exposures to CSA and Commercial Directors
Team Development/Management
Recruits and manages an adequate team to support the development and execution of the bank’s strategy and objectives.
Coordinate training schedules and define training needs.
Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and commitment to quality.
Mentor and develop staff using supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis.
Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments.
Project Management:
Ensures delivery of committed project plans, including those under regulatory change programs (e.g. Heightened Standards). Design, plan and control area projects until completion
Distribute Business/Project communications. Prepare and update Project documentation
Specialized Knowledge
Knowledge of office administrator responsibilities, systems and procedures
Experience interacting with clients HNW & UHNW in an International Private Banking institution.
Comprehensive knowledge of front to back Risk Mgmt. (Risk identification, assessment, mitigation and control, Governance and reporting, Monitoring and testing)
Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
Attention to detail and problem solving skills
Organizational and planning skills in a fast-paced environment
Proactive, with an ability to suggest improvements
Knowledge of financial markets
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience
Business Experience:
7-10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated required level of proficiency

What Else You Need To Know:
The base pay range for this position is posted below and represents the annualized salary range. For hourly positions (non-exempt), the annual range is based on a 40-hour work week. The exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications and location.
