Business Architect
Position Description:

Business Architect
Must have a government of Canada Security Clearance

We are seeking a Business Architect to play a key leadership role in a major transformation initiative. In this role, you will lead business design across requirements, operating models, user stories, functional design, and business contributions to architecture, UX, and migration planning. You will also lead and guide a multi-disciplinary team spanning Business Analysts, Process Analysts, UX, Architecture, and technical collaborators. Success in this role requires a deep appreciation for business process transformation, including its impacts on both the technical landscape and the lived human experience of end users. The Business Architect must be able to pick up on implicit needs, pressures, and pain points during stakeholder conversations—even when not explicitly stated—and translate these into forward-looking design inputs.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

- Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership
-Lead workshops, interviews, and discussions to uncover both explicit and implicit business needs, operational realities, and user pain points.
-Maintain strong, ongoing engagement with client stakeholders to ensure alignment throughout the design lifecycle.
-Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary business design team, ensuring high-quality outputs across requirements, process design, and functional design.
-Clearly communicate business implications of design choices, future-state transformations, and process changes—including impacts on end users, future state roles, and operations.
Business Requirements & Analysis
-Lead the definition, refinement, and validation of business requirements for the new solution.
-Identify underlying business process challenges and opportunities that may not be explicitly stated by SMEs.
-Ensure requirements are clear, traceable, testable, and tied to real business outcomes and user needs.
-Maintain end-to-end traceability across requirements, user stories, design, and testing.
User Story & Agile Delivery Leadership
-Lead creation and refinement of user stories across solution functionality, process transformation needs, AI-enabled capabilities, and data workflows.
-Ensure stories incorporate human-impact considerations (e.g., ease of use, clarity, accessibility, cognitive load).
-Collaborate with Product Owners, BAs, UX, Architecture, and technical teams in an Agile SAFe environment.

Future-State Operating Model & Business Process Transformation
-Design the future-state business and operating model including roles, workflows, governance, and content processes.
-Interpret business process transformation impacts, anticipating how changing guidance, workflows, content flows, and tools will affect employees and end users.
-Identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce friction, and ensure the to-be model is intuitive, scalable, and human-centered.
-Work closely with the Architects, UX leads, Change Management, and Training specialists to ensure business transformation is designed holistically.

Frameworks & Solution Design Alignment
Shape frameworks such as content lifecycle, metadata usage, governance processes, and content-review workflows.
-Collaborate with UX and Architecture to ensure the solution reflects both business process needs and user experience realities.
-Lead development and validation of design specifications, ensuring business logic, workflows, and decision rules are fully defined.

AI-Enablement
-Identify high-value opportunities for AI within the solution.
-Translate business process pain points into functional AI use cases.
-Collaborate with AI/ML specialists to ensure AI capabilities enhance, not complicate, the user experience.

Migration, Release Planning & Readiness
-Contribute business perspective to migration planning, release sequencing, and operational readiness activities.
-Identify business constraints, dependencies, content readiness factors, and training/change impacts.
-Ensure the migration plan considers not only system change but process and human impacts.

Cross-Team Integration
-Work closely with PMO, Architecture, UX, Data, Change Management, Release, and Training teams to ensure business coherence and alignment.
-Ensure business decisions are consistently reflected across requirements, UX flows, functional designs, and migration sequencing.
-Act as the connective layer between business process transformation and technical/UX implementation.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

-10+ years of leadership experience in business architecture, business analysis, functional design, or related roles in large transformation programs.
-Demonstrated experience leading business process transformation, including understanding impacts on workflow, roles, and the user experience.
-Strong ability to surface and interpret implicit business needs and undercurrents during stakeholder conversations.
-Hands-on experience writing and refining user stories in Agile (SAFe preferred) environments.
-Experience collaborating with UX, Architecture, Solution Architecture, Data, PMO, and Change Management teams.
-Excellent communication, facilitation, and documentation skills.
-Experience leading and mentoring BAs or process-focused team members.

Preferred
Exposure to AI/ML-enabled features and functional AI use case development.
-Experience in public sector or regulated environments.
-Familiarity with content migration or large-scale content/process transformation programs.
