Responsibilities
The Business Analyst provides analytical and operational support to advance the Department of Surgery’s data-driven decision-making and improve clinical and operational performance. This role bridges clinical, operational, and technical perspectives to deliver high-quality analytics products, dashboards, and process improvements that align with departmental and institutional goals.
The analyst collaborates closely with stakeholders: surgeons, clinical staff, and data teams to define, document, and translate business needs into functional specifications for digital products, dashboards, reports, and automation solutions. They perform data analysis and validation to ensure metrics are accurate, consistent, and actionable, supporting initiatives that enhance the practice, education, research, and operations of our users.
Applying systems and analytical thinking, the analyst ensures all solutions align with Mayo Clinic’s strategic priorities of Cure, Connect, and Transform. They partner with project leaders and technical teams to coordinate the planning, development, and deployment of deliverables, maintaining clear communication and strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure products meet real-world needs.
The role requires proficiency in business analysis methods, process evaluation, validation, and data interpretation, with the ability to assess costs, benefits, and risks associated with proposed solutions. The Business Analyst may also lead smaller analytics or workflow projects or support components of larger initiatives, contributing to the continuous improvement of data and analytics capabilities across the Department of Surgery.
Qualifications
Bachelors and 4 years experience in business analysis, business administration, engineering, information science, health or science related field OR Masters and 2 years experience in business analysis, business administration, engineering, information science, health or science related field. CBAP Certified Business Analysis Professional, CCBA Certification of Competency in Business Analysis, ECBA Entry Certificate in Business Analysis, or PMI-PBA Professional in Business Analysis preferred.
