In coordination with and in absence of the Chief Engineer, maintain boiler operation and air handling systems, compressors, pumps and chiller units, chemical testing, and yearly shutdown & cleaning for state inspections. 2. Serve in the rotation for required weekend boiler checks. * 1st Class "C" Boilers license is required. 3. Construction and maintenance of building and equipment: * Remodel offices, classrooms, shops, etc. Including painting, masonry work, patching carpet & vinyl, sheet rocking, plastering, cutting & installing doors, windows, cabinets, whiteboards, bulletin boards, projectors, screens, and handicap ramps. * Construct various cabinets, furniture, desks, steps, chain link fence, playground equipment, and shelving. * Repair plumbing leaks, toilets, sinks, and install airlines. * Perform preventive maintenance tasks including checking filters, belts, greasing fittings, changing oil, weekly hazardous waste removal, and monthly safety inspections. * Building security - lock & unlock buildings and respond to after hour building alarms. * Maintain snowplows, sanding equipment, and lawn equipment. * Perform electrical troubleshooting and provide minor electrical repairs - cords, electric motors, etc. * Work closely with supervisor to plan and coordinate the operations of the department for when the supervisor is off site. 4. Custodial and support: * Daily cleaning - clean shop sink, vacuum offices, shop mats, and empty trash. * Fill in for other department personnel if needed. * In absence of the Supervisor of Buildings & Grounds, may provide lead work direction as needed at the Campus. * Respond to staff and student requests. * Remove snow from parking lots and sidewalks. Change work shift hours as needed during winter months to accommodate snow removal and work overtime as required. * Grounds keeping, mow, trim, water, fertilize, apply weed killer, etc. in the absence of the groundskeeper. 5. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner. **Salary Range:** $29.93 - $34.52 / hourly; $62,493 - $72,077 / annually **Minimum Qualifications:** + Current 1st Class C boiler license + Knowledge and skills in the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in trades work sufficient to assist skilled trades' staff in the completion of assigned projects. + Ability to perform semi-skilled trades work sufficient to complete minor trades plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and/or electrical systems and equipment. + Ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to machinery and equipment including the general maintenance and minor repairs of buildings. + Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions sufficient to interpret and carry out assignments in a safe and efficient manner. + Skills in using hand and power tools and other trades equipment. + Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties. + Ability to provide work direction to unskilled helpers. + Sufficient mobility (such as climb, stoop, bend, crawl, twist etc.) and ability to lift up to 50 lbs. **Preferred Qualification:** + Refrigeration license + Forklift truck license + Knowledge of plumbing codes + Organizational and human relations skills + Communication skills **Other Requirements:** Hennepin Technical College is currently unable to sponsor work visas or green card applications due to regulatory complexity, budget constraints, and alignment with our current hiring strategy.
