ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY
Black & McDonald's Facility Management & Operations team is growing! If you are a committed and collaborative professional looking to contribute to a hard-working, innovative team, this opportunity is for you. We are looking for two Building Operators in the Ottawa area.
The Building Operator position typically reports directly to the Contract Manager. Their primary focus is safe and efficient operation of the facility, ensuring availability of supplies for maintenance of system equipment, and diagnosing trouble calls and developing appropriate action to be taken. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
+ Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Heating/Cooling Plant.
+ Investigate and resolve complex problems related to cooling, heating, and pressure flow, complete assigned documentation including but not limited to hourly/daily readings, deficiency reporting and completion of logbook. Direct, monitor and coordinate the work of the personnel assigned to that specific unit. Accountable for achieving specific operational unit objectives.
+ Analyze results from testing and treatment of all process water and steam for boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and other specified mechanical and heat generating equipment.
+ Completion of daily, weekly or monthly B&M and site-specific documentation
+ Consult with chemical supply technicians to correct deficiencies in water treatment.
+ Update operational procedures to maintain system efficiency and to reflect changes in codes and regulations.
+ Ensure availability of supplies for maintenance of system equipment.
+ Prepare routine and special system operation reports for customers and management.
+ Diagnose trouble calls and develop appropriate action to be taken.
+ May be responsible for overseeing general housekeeping of the O&M building area.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
+ Certified Stationary Engineer, Class 4 A or Refrigeration B license (per contract).
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
+ Building Operator with 3-5 years' facilities maintenance and operations experience.
+ Strong technical capabilities in building systems and equipment.
+ Heating & cooling systems, safety & compliance, and diagnostic tools knowledge.
+ Basic HVAC and plumbing skills.
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
+ Excellent customer service skills in ensuring client requests are responded to professionally and promptly.
+ Must be able to work in confined spaces and/or working at heights.
+ Bending and lifting (under 30kg) required.
+ Valid driver's license is required.
+ Must obtain and maintain a valid Reliability Clearance (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of 5 years).
This position's wage rate follows the 787 Union Agreement schedule.
