Building Engineer

We are seeking a seasoned Building Engineer with proven experience in commercial real estate operations. This role is responsible for maintaining the integrity, functionality, and safety of building systems across office, retail, or mixed-use properties. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver with deep expertise in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems in high-occupancy environments.

Pay:  $38.00 per hour
The pay listed is the hourly range or the hourly rate for this position.   A specific offer will vary based on applicant’s experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.

Shift: Monday through Friday 9:30am-6pm.

10% Travel required.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations & Maintenance

Operate, maintain, and repair all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing. Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance and compliance. Complete and maintain a daily checklist of building systems and equipment. Monitor and adjust Building Automation Systems (BAS) for energy efficiency and occupant comfort.

Tenant & Vendor Coordination

Respond promptly to tenant service requests and ensure timely resolution. Coordinate with third-party vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and inspections. Maintain strong working relationships with tenants and property management teams.

Compliance & Safety

Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal codes and regulations. Maintain accurate documentation for inspections, permits, and maintenance logs. Participate in emergency response planning, drills, and safety initiatives.

Project Support

Assist with capital improvement projects, renovations, and system upgrades. Provide technical input during planning and execution phases. Track and report on project progress and system performance.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED required; technical school or associate degree preferred. Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in commercial building engineering or facilities maintenance.

Technical Skills

Proficient in HVAC systems, electrical distribution, plumbing, and BAS. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals. Skilled in the use of diagnostic tools and maintenance software.

Certifications (Preferred)

EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification Building Operator Certification (BOC) OSHA 10/30 Certification LEED or Energy Management credentials a plus  

Working Conditions:

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various physical environments (e.g., rooftops, mechanical rooms). On-call availability for after-hours emergencies and rotating weekend coverage. Exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperature conditions.
