Job Description

The AECOM North Carolina Transportation team is seeking a Bridge Engineer to join our growing structural and transportation group located in Raleigh, NC. This role will support the planning, analysis, design, and rehabilitation of bridges and related transportation structures across a variety of public-sector projects.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

Perform structural analysis and design of bridges and transportation structures in accordance with AASHTO and state DOT standardsPrepare engineering calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reportsConduct bridge inspections in accordance with NBIS requirements (preferred)Assist in the development of rehabilitation and maintenance recommendations for existing structuresCoordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including roadway, geotechnical, and construction engineering staffReview contractor submittals and provide construction support services as neededEnsure quality control and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and agency guidelinesDevelop and implement innovative bridge design solutions to improve efficiency and cost-effectivenessParticipate in the preparation of proposals and presentations for potential projectsMentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on bridge engineering projectsStay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in bridge engineering and designCollaborate with environmental specialists to ensure bridge designs meet sustainability and ecological requirementsPerform load rating analyses for new and existing bridges to determine their structural capacityAssist in the development of bridge management systems and maintenance strategies

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering plus 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educationDue to the projects associated with this position a US Citizenship is requiredValid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records reviewAbility and willingness to travel occasionally within NCBridge engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master of Science or Master of Engineering)PE license in North Carolina, or ability to obtain a PE within 6 monthsExperience with structural analysis software (e.g., MIDAS, Leap Bridge Concrete, or similar)Proficiency in CAD/BIM tools such as OpenRoads/OpenBridge Designer or MicroStationStrong understanding of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design SpecificationsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsBridge inspection experience (NBIS Team Lead certification or progress toward certification is a plus)Experience with load rating analysis of standard bridgesFamiliarity with NCDOT design procedures and standardsField experience involving construction observation or assessment of existing structures
