Breaking News Correspondent, Latin American Breaking News Hub

Reuters is seeking a journalist with strong news judgement and solid experience working in a newsroom that publishes in real-time to join our Latin American Breaking News Hub. The successful candidate will be part of a fast-paced, high-performing team covering a range of topics in Brazil and around the world in Portuguese for our Brazilian clients and audience.

As a Breaking News Correspondent, you will be covering some of the most important, competitive and exciting stories of our time, and must be ready to quickly turn your hand to craft headlines and write newsbreaks and updates on any breaking news topic. The role is dynamic and you will be expected to cover a wide array of subjects, including disclosure news from Brazilian corporations, economic indicators and political and general news developments, among other topics.

About the role:

As a Breaking News Correspondent you will:

Focus your time on monitoring and gathering information across a range of sources for developments in corporate, economic and political news. Apply news judgment to extract the relevant information from company and government statements, officials’ speeches, social media posts and TV broadcastsReport and write news headlines and stories clearly, accurately and quickly under time pressure to deliver the news first to our readersUse sharp news judgment to select stories from Reuters bureaus around the world and translate them to Portuguese quickly and concisely for our readers, editing the output of translation software as needed to ensure our standards of quality 

About you

The successful candidate will: 

At least solid experience in a reporting or editing roleStrong knowledge of the global news landscape, with excellent news judgmentAbility to write and deliver fully reported stories on deadline, while remaining calm under pressureNative Portuguese and excellent level of English (spoken and written)Willingness to work nights and weekends
