Job Title: Bookkeeper

Job Description

The bookkeeper will be responsible for processing weekly payroll for 30–50 employees, including prevailing wage jobs, reviewing timesheets, entering data, verifying job codes, and interacting with field staff and management. Additionally, the role entails handling weekly accounts payable tasks, including tracking purchase orders, invoices, receipts, and vendor statements, and communicating with vendors as needed. The bookkeeper will also provide administrative support, manage confidential employee and company information, answer phones, receive deliveries, provide orientation, and track information for new hires. Other duties include maintaining inventory, scanning and filing documents, managing safety documents and daily office operations, maintaining calendars, and assisting with recruitment tracking.

Responsibilities

Process weekly payroll for 30–50 employees, including prevailing wage jobs.Review timesheets, enter data, verify job codes, and interact with field staff and management.Handle weekly accounts payable tasks: track purchase orders, invoices, receipts, and vendor statements.Communicate with vendors as needed.Manage confidential employee and company information.Answer phones and receive deliveries.Provide orientation and track information for new hires.Maintain safety and office supply inventory in Excel.Scan and file documents, both physical and electronic.Create and update documents in Excel, Word, and PDF.Manage safety documents and daily office operations.Maintain Outlook calendar for certifications, vacations, and business functions.Track insurance certificates for clients, subs, and vehicles.Assist with recruitment tracking.Perform other tasks as needed to support the business.

Essential Skills

Accounts payable experience.Payroll processing experience.Data entry proficiency.Invoicing and invoice processing skills.Administrative support capabilities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

3+ years of experience in payroll, accounts payable, and data entry, construction industry experience preferred.Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.QuickBooks Desktop experience preferred.Excellent typing and attention to detail.Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.Analytical thinker, organized, and accountable.

Work Environment

The work environment consists of a quiet office setting with five days in-office work from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, including a 30-minute lunch. There is flexibility to start at 8:00 AM or 8:30 AM if needed. The office staff will primarily consist of the bookkeeper and another person.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glen Burnie, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
