We are looking for a dedicated **Blood Gas Laboratory Coordinator** like you to be a part of our team. **Job Summary and Qualifications** Blood Gas Clinical Coordinator (technical consultant) is responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the Respiratory Blood Gas Laboratory, including compliance with College of American Pathologist (CAP) checklist requirements. The technical consultant must be available to the Respiratory Therapy department, hospital, and laboratory as needed for telephone, electronic and on-site consultation. **Responsibilities:** + Participates in the development, implementation, and review of department policies and procedures. + Responsible for the enrollment and participation in a CAP approved proficiency testing program commensurate with the services offered. + Responsible for establishing a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed + Provides technical assistance to and coordinates the duties of, other laboratory personnel, such as RT, BSN, and CRNA to maximize staffing for smooth, efficient operation of the area. + Plans, organizes, and performs daily clinical laboratory procedures including blood gas machines functionality. + Maintains functionality of departmental equipment and maintains inventories of reagents; assumes responsibilities for the maintenance of supplies, reagents, and equipment. Oversees verification of the test procedures performed and establishment of the laboratory's test performance characteristics, including the precision and accuracy of each test and test system. + Maintains and updates laboratory policies and procedure manuals and communicate policy changes to other laboratory personnel. + Is responsible for providing day-to-day functional supervision of moderate complexity test performance by testing personnel. + Identifies the training needs and assures that each individual performing test receives training and education appropriate for the type and complexity of the laboratory services performed. + Evaluates the competency of all testing personnel to properly setup, calibrate, maintain, and operate and shutdown such instruments that are vital to their position. + Evaluates the competency of all testing personnel and assures that the staff maintains their competency to perform test procedures and report test results annually. + Assures that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the blood gas laboratory’s established performance specifications. + Assures department CAP surveys are performed appropriately and submitted on time. + The employee demonstrates a concern for the rights, privacy, and feelings of patients, visitors, and co-workers. The employee maintains confidentiality of clinical and personal information. + Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. + Complies with all department and institution policies and procedures. Complies with the Memorial Health Compliance Program, related policies and procedures and the Code of Business Practices; reports instances of perceived and actual non-compliance to Team Leader or through other reporting mechanisms. **What qualifications you will need:** + Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date + Bachelors Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Respiratory Therapy + 3 Plus years of Relevant Work Experience + American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification Preferred + Qualifies as Moderate Complexity Testing Personnel under CLIA 88 regulations + Working knowledge of laboratory testing requirements. Comprehensive knowledge of CMS, DHR, CAP and JACHO regulations regarding Blood Gas Measurement. Computer skills and supervisory experience.
