Expected pay for this position is $18.27 - $20.29/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is an Hourly position.


Overview

This job is located in Peoria,IL

 

1 x 8 hour day shift (8a-430p)

 

8 hours per week

 

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Birth Certificate Specialist ensures accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of all births and fetal/neonatal deaths. This role is responsible for collecting, entering, and submitting critical birth and death data in accordance with state and hospital regulations. The Birth Certificate Specialist serves as the site administrator for the Illinois Vital Records System (IVRS), maintaining data integrity, tracking logs, and compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) requirements. Additionally, this role supports quality improvement efforts, collaborates with state and internal stakeholders, and contributes to data abstraction initiatives. Responsibilities also include onboarding and training new clerks, managing system access, supporting evaluations, and communicating team performance updates to leadership.


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School Diploma/GED Experience: 6 months experience in a medical or clerical setting. Other Skills/ Knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented. Knowledge of basic medical terminology. Ability to review medical records for completeness and accuracy.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: Prior experience with birth/death registration or vital records systems. Experience with Illinois Department of Public Health reporting systems.
