Job DescriptionThe Bioreactor Process Development Scientist will support upstream Drug Substance Process Development (DS PD) activities with a strong focus on mammalian cell culture, bioreactor operations, and preparation of critical upstream materials. This role is highly hands‑on, working within tissue culture suites and bioreactor bays to ensure smooth execution of experimental and operational workflows. The scientist will contribute to media preparation, consumables readiness, experimental sampling, and bioreactor manipulations that enable successful process development studies.
Key responsibilities include preparing custom tubing assemblies, supporting cell culture media manufacturing, executing routine bioreactor sampling and analytics, and documenting experimental observations in real time. This role requires strong aseptic technique, operational precision, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a fast‑paced development environment. Due to the nature of cell culture work, participation in a rotating weekend coverage schedule is expected.
Responsibilities
Support upstream DS PD activities by preparing and organizing critical consumables for use in tissue culture suites and bioreactor bays.Prepare custom tubing sets and assemblies used in bioreactor operations; package and sterilize assemblies via autoclaving as instructed.Assist with the preparation and aliquoting of pre-made cell culture media.Provide periodic support to cell culture media manufacturing operations as needed.Perform routine bioreactor manipulations, including sampling, metabolite analysis, cell counts, and media exchanges, during weekday operations.Participate in rotating weekend coverage to support ongoing cell culture and bioreactor studies.Record real-time observations, data, and measurements following established procedures, work instructions, job aids, and SOPs.Maintain high standards of safety and compliance with all applicable local, state, federal, and company EHS guidelines.QualificationsBasic Qualifications
B.S. with 2+ years of relevant experience, or M.S. with 0+ years of experience in a biology-, chemistry-, or engineering-focused discipline.Prior experience working in a BSL1+ wet laboratory environment.Demonstrated proficiency in aseptic technique and hands-on work in biosafety cabinets.Strong foundation in mammalian cell culture.Experience operating bioreactors, peristaltic pumps, and TPE tube welders.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and troubleshoot experimental issues.Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.Ability to design experiments, interpret data, maintain accurate records, and follow procedural documentation.Ability to work independently and collaboratively; demonstrates motivation, adaptability, and a positive, team-oriented attitude.Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.Desired Qualifications
Experience working with stem cells in a BSL2+ environment.Familiarity with electronic lab notebook (ELN) documentation systems.Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.Additional InformationThe position is full-time, Monday through Friday, with rotating work on weekends (2-4 hours per day).
