Under general supervision of the Supervisor / Manager of Clinical Engineering, the Biomedical Equipment Technician II (BMET II) is an intermediate-level technician responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, calibration, and repair of a wide range of medical equipment. The BMET II performs scheduled and corrective maintenance, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and supports clinical staff in the safe and effective use of medical equipment. This role requires a solid understanding of electronics, medical technology, and troubleshooting practices. This position provides technical guidance, and mentorship to BMET I team members. The BMET II position plays a key role in maintaining safe, functional, and available medical equipment for patients and care givers.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on medical devices in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and industry standards.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a wide variety of clinical equipment and instrumentation.
• Document all service activities, inspections, and repairs in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Provide technical support and in-service training to clinical users on proper operation and care of equipment.
• Maintain accurate equipment records and assist with equipment inventory, evaluation, and replacement planning.
• Assist with installation, calibration, and initial testing of new equipment.
• Maintain parts, hand tools and test equipment inventory, ensuring cleanliness and organization of the workspace.
• Respond promptly to service calls and prioritize work orders based on criticality.
• Adhere to all safety protocols, infection control standards, and Joint Commission and regulatory requirements.
• Work under general supervision, with some independent judgment required for routine repairs and escalations.
• Collaborate with BMET I, II, III, IV and informatics team members, vendors, and clinical departments to resolve equipment issues efficiently.
• Escalate complex problems to senior BMETs or vendors as appropriate.
• Assume 24-hour on-call repair responsibilities.
• Other duty as requested by Supervisor / Manager of Clinical Engineering.
