About this Job
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is responsible for managing and protecting the state’s renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology.
The incumbent of this position will assist in implementing oil spill and wildlife response efforts state-wide, including wildlife surveys, hazing, capture/rescue, and triage. The incumbent will be on-call on a rotating basis for oil spill response and report monitoring.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
This position serves as a state-wide oil spill response biologist and functions under the direct supervision of a Biologist Supervisor. The incumbent for this position is responsible for assisting and working with Biologist Supervisor, other State and Federal Agency Representatives and Responsible Parties on oil spill response and wildlife response operations throughout the state. The incumbent is responsible for assisting with oil spill response planning and drill activities, coordinating wildlife response operations, conducting wildlife rescue operations, field triage of impacted wildlife, and developing reports on response activities and observations. Incumbent will serve as an Agency point of contact for all oil spills throughout the state and will be required to be on call on a rotating basis for oil spill response activities and report monitoring.

Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available.
This position is located in Lafayette, LA.
-This position requires independent travel throughout the state to remote locations, including last minute overnight travel.
-Physical demands of this position require the incumbent to exert brief periods of heavy muscular or strenuous physical exertion. Examples of this include occasionally listing objects over 50 pounds (i.e., alligators, animal crates with wildlife, propane cannons), and walking for extended periods over rough terrain (i.e., greater than 5 miles through mud, or knee deep water).
-Overnight travel throughout Louisiana, including early departure, night work in boats and airboats and extended workdays is also required.
