As a **Biologics R&D Engineer II** , you will play a critical role in the design and development of life-changing medical device products for spinal surgery, with a focus on **biologic bone grafts** and their interaction with spinal implants and instrumentation. You will work independently with general guidance and may serve as a core team member on cross-functional projects.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
+ Design, develop, and troubleshoot innovative biologic products to support treatment of degenerative, deformity, tumor, and trauma-related spinal conditions.
+ Create 3D models, engineering drawings, and functional prototypes to support concept development and design approval.
+ Plan, execute, and analyze testing and experiments to validate and optimize product performance.
+ Define and perform verification and validation (V&V) activities to ensure products meet user needs, intended use, and regulatory requirements.
+ Support commercialization through the full design control process, maintaining documentation in compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
+ Participate in pre-clinical in vivo labs and observe surgical procedures to inform design decisions and deepen clinical understanding.
+ Build domain expertise in biologics, bone graft materials, and spinal applications through customer interactions, field visits, literature reviews, and training.
+ Collaborate with manufacturing teams to review prints and specifications, ensuring design for manufacturability.
+ Ensure compliance with all applicable quality system regulations, design controls, and safety policies.

**Must Have (Minimum Requirements)**

+ Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or technical degree required with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
+ OR advance degree with a minimum of 0 years of relevant experience.
**Nice to Have (** **Preferred Qualifications** **)**
+ Advance degree in Engineering preferred with ~2 years of experience is preferred
+ Experience in the medical device industry, ideally with biologic bone grafts, allogenic tissue implants, resorbable biomaterials, or devices for spine, trauma, orthopedics, or dental applications
+ Hands-on experience in the design and development of biologic bone grafting, orthopedic, and/or dental medical devices
+ Strong understanding of medical device development processes and regulatory pathways
+ Background in bone biology and bone grafting technologies and techniques
+ Proven ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams
+ Demonstrated communication skills, including the ability to share information, provide updates, and contribute to team-based decision-making
+ Experience working in FDA-regulated environments, with knowledge of ISO standards and Quality System Regulations (QSR)

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$83,200.00 - $124,800.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
