Bioinformatics Specialist II - Remote

Invitae, part of Labcorp, is looking for a Bioinformatics Specialist II to join its team! This position will monitor our genetic testing pipeline using custom software tools to ensure samples move through efficiently. Successful candidates will take initiative to automate and improve workflows and troubleshoot the production process through diligent analysis. Important parts of this job are to conduct independent research and communicate with non-technical teammates.

Please note: this position is a remote role, and candidate can reside anywhere in the US.  

The schedule for this position will be Monday-Friday, Tuesday-Saturday, or Sunday-Thursday, 8am-5pm local time zone. Candidate must be flexible to work either schedule.

Responsibilities:

Ensure and maintain the delivery of accurate clinical reports by reviewing batch and sample level data for patient samplesCreate tools and workflows to ensure the accurate processing and troubleshooting of sample data and clinical systemsNext generation sequencing (NGS) performance metric definition, analysis, and monitoringAssess and troubleshoot the data systems that orchestrate the lab and bioinformatics processesTrack and improve measures of operational excellence (e.g. order turnaround time)Address production bottlenecks, investigate their causes, and facilitate solutionsServe as a subject matter expert representing the team in incident responses, process improvements, and product developmentExecute SOP development and improvementDevelop software scripts and queries for analysis and automationMonitor delayed samples and support their resolutionMust be able to work a flexible schedule, including being able to commit to periodic weekend support

Requirements:

Ph.D. with minimum 1 year of experience working in a molecular biology environment (such as lab work, automation, or data analysis) ORMasters degree with minimum 3 years of experience working in a molecular biology environment (such as lab work, automation, or data analysis) ORBachelors with minimum 5 years of experience working in a molecular biology environment (such as lab work, automation, or data analysis) OR9 years of experience working in a molecular biology environment (such as lab work, automation, or data analysis)Previous experience working in a high throughput manufacturing or lab processing environment requiredPrevious experience with troubleshooting or process improvement for lab or software pipelinesStrong process analysis, design, and improvement experienceWorking knowledge of molecular genetics and experience with next generation sequencing (NGS) data, preferably in a production settingStrong experience manipulating data and troubleshooting applications in UNIX-based environmentsStrong experience writing scripts to analyze data (e.g. Python, R) and well versed in software version control methods (e.g. Git)Strong database querying experience (e.g. PostgreSQL)Superior oral and written communication skills and the ability to clearly communicate technical findings to non-technical teammatesFamiliarity with LIMS best practices and working in a high throughput lab environmentExcellent ability to work with people across different teams and specializations

Preferred Requirements:

Hands-on NGS wet lab experienceExperience with bash scripting

**Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000 / year

All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.
