The Senior Manager, AML Risk is responsible for understanding the AML/ATF and Sanctions risk profile of the applicable business units and supporting them in the identification and management of inherent risks (product, customer, and geography). The Senior Manager is also responsible for escalating elevated or unacceptable risks and guiding the business in the implementation and monitoring of first-line AML controls. **Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:** + Policy & Procedure development and guidance: + Support the assigned portfolio in the development, maintenance, and implementation of procedures to ensure that regulatory and Enterprise policy obligations are met. + Facilitate the escalation of queries from the business line AML Advisors to Enterprise Control owners/Centralized execution teams or the relevant Enterprise Policy and Standards team to address specific clarifications. + Implementation and oversight of the Enterprise AML/ATF Programs: + Support the implementation of the Enterprise AML/ATF Program across the assigned portfolio. + Facilitate the escalation of queries from business line AML Advisors (1B) and AML Operations to second-line (2B) functions such as Risk Detection, Global Sanctions Office, and the Transaction Monitoring & Name Screening teams. + Assess business-generated AML management information to ensure that metrics are within tolerance and action plans are in place where appropriate. + Design and maintain departmental oversight procedures as applicable. + Enterprise AML risk assessments and associated reviews: + Provide support and effective challenge to the assigned portfolio through participation in the Enterprise AML self-assessments. + Contribute towards ongoing risk reviews (e.g., product, occupation list, geographical). + Contribute towards thematic risk appetite statements to clearly articulate the business line CAMLO's position on specific topics, business segments, and customer types. + Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions and communicate that to assigned business units. + Client risk rating (oversight of methodology and enhanced due diligence): + Support the assigned portfolio in the design and ongoing execution of a customer risk rating model to assess customer suitability throughout their lifecycle (onboarding, periodic, and de-market) as applicable. + Support the assigned portfolio in ensuring that business procedures for the capture and updating of key customer data points meet Enterprise and regulatory requirements and that enhanced due diligence is conducted when appropriate. + Advisory services to the business: + Provide advisory services and oversight to the business line through participation in AML-related forums and the timely response to ad hoc queries from the assigned portfolio. + Support the implementation of the annual business line AML/ATF training program. + Champion a customer-focused culture by developing effective relationships with key staff across the organization and act as the primary communication point for the assigned business unit. + Provide subject matter expertise to business and Enterprise project working groups to contribute to the design and implementation of effective controls that are sustainable and with client primacy in mind. + Establish effective mechanisms for decision-making and for appropriate escalation of information to senior management. + Control review and effectiveness assessment: + Review, assess, and advise the business on ML/TF and Sanctions risks and the effectiveness of AML controls associated with new products, services, and initiatives; participate in the ongoing development of the initiative where the implementation or enhancement of AML controls is required. + Review and assess ML/TF and Sanctions risks and mitigating controls associated with the onboarding, renewal, or material amendment of third-party outsourcing arrangements. + Identify opportunities to evaluate existing controls and promote a culture of continuous monitoring during the normal course of engagement with business line partners. + Perform quality assurance reviews per documented policies and procedures over New Initiatives Risk Assessments and Third-Party Risk Assessments as applicable. + Regulatory Exam/Relationship management: + Support in-country teams in the management of regulatory engagements. + Support in-country teams in the escalation of emerging risks and trends stemming from regulatory relationship management as related to AML. + Audit Liaison: + Act as the audit liaison as related to issues management and audit engagements. + Records and Information Management: + Support the assigned portfolio in identifying the critical data elements to enable the Enterprise record retention schedule application. + Champion a high-performance environment by fostering an inclusive work environment. + Support technical excellence by searching out external best practices, monitoring technical and professional developments, sharing knowledge, and encouraging others to do the same in the best interests of the team and its stakeholders. + Encourage and enable cross-business and cross-functional teamwork by demonstrating collaboration and leadership in action and challenging behaviours that are not consistent with Scotiabank’s diversity policy and/or the best interests of the business and its customers. + Develop critical skill sets in team members and provide a stimulating work environment geared towards personal and professional growth. + Be ultimately responsible for the performance management of direct reports (if applicable), using relevant tools, continuous dialogue, and ensuring timely action is taken to improve underperformance. + Take a hands-on approach to coaching with regular and productive use of personal development plans and appropriate follow-up. **Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed?
