Job Summary:

The Bell Captain provides supervision and guidance to the Bell Attendants on property, ensuring exceptional arrival and departure experiences through warm greetings, valet service, luggage assistance, and local expertise. Serve as a key point of guest interaction, supporting smooth operations in both front drive and lobby areas. 

Job Duties & Functions:

Ensure full scope of bell attendant duties are adhered to, including but not limited to greeting all guests, assisting with taxi requests and other guest inquires, proving directions and local recommendations, vehicle parking and retrieval, luggage handling, and room orientation.   Keep lobby areas tidy by removing trash and debris between housekeeping rounds.  Stay knowledgeable about local events, attractions, and dining to provide accurate guest guidance.  Function as a door person when required, ensuring smooth guest flow and vehicle access.  In emergency situations, assist in keeping the driveway clear for emergency vehicle access.  Ensure the guest arrival area remains clear and welcoming at all times.  Maintain cleanliness and security of the garage area, preventing unauthorized access.  Support other departments or take on additional tasks as needed, in line with a collaborative team spirit.  Ensure all scheduled shifts are adequately staffed. Provide coverage when necessary.  Adhere to the hotel’s key control policies. Maintain thorough knowledge of all fire safety and emergency procedures.  Oversee the completion of the checklists by bell attendant to ensure operational consistency.  Handle guest concerns or issues calmly and professionally, delivering prompt resolutions.  Lead by example by maintaining proficiency in all front desk duties and setting the standard for service and professionalism.  Maintain clear and professional communication with all hotel departments via internal channels.  Keep the front office, back office, front desk area, and supply closets clean, organized, and well-stocked.  Provide coaching and counseling to team members as needed, using appropriate documentation and performance management techniques.  Ensure all employees complete their duties before the end of their shift and are present at their stations on time.  Oversee and maintain high service standards through daily monitoring and staff training. Ensure compliance with grooming and uniform standards.  Ensure employees practice compliance with all hotel standards and policies as outlined by the Employee Handbook   Assist in training of new hires and current associates on a regular basis  Be accountable for managing payroll and operating expenses within budgeted limits.  Performs other duties and attends meetings, as assigned by hotel/department leadership

Education & Experience: 

Minimum 2 years of similar experience in a luxury hotel. Prior supervisory experience is preferred.  Strong understanding of Forbes, AAA, LQA or similar luxury standards is required.  High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.  Strong adaptability to dynamic situations and a wide variety of guest personalities, with the ability to remain composed and courteous under pressure.  Excellent verbal communication skills with a professional and friendly demeanor.  Clean driving record required with a valid drivers license; must be at least 26 years of age.   Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by business needs.  Physically capable of lifting and moving luggage and other items up to 50 pounds.  Ability to work outdoors in tropical weather conditions, including high heat and humidity.  Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time during shift.
