Our Behavioral Health professionals are here to support and help patients find ways to handle various challenges. As a Behavioral Health Technician, you will provide patients with the best treatment experience possible, fostering a welcoming, warming and inclusive environment in which they can thrive and grow.

A caregiver in this position works two 12-hour day shifts weekly from 6:45AM - 7:15PM, with weekend and two yearly holiday requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Direct patient care of behavioral health patients under the supervision of an LPN/RN.  Monitor and assess the mental status of behavioral health patients and make appropriate interventions.  Maintain patient chart documentation.  Assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Identify patient physical care and comfort needs and perform care. Perform routine procedures as designated.  Secure patient belongings and valuables and document their disposition. Assist with Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) preparation and provide care as designated by the Registered Nurse pre-op and post-op. Perform ongoing observation of patient responses to illness and treatment. Collect data through observation.  Provide clinical expertise in the evaluation and treatment of patients. Participate in the identification of patients' learning needs. Participate in admission process by orienting patient and family members to the milieu. Plan and organize recreational, psycho-educational and supportive groups focused on contributing to patients' treatment with the milieu.Plan and implement safe milieu interventions consistent with treatment goals. Carry out specific interventions to ensure patient safety including rounds, primary searches and visitor control. Document patient group activities, patient behavior, interventions completed and patient response to interventions. Assist with training and orientation of new caregivers or students. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience in behavioral health OR Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral HealthNon-Violent Crisis Intervention training (NVCI) within 14 days of hire and prior to patient contactBasic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)Knowledge to recognize signs and symptoms of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) based diagnosis

Physical Requirements:

Good general physical health with no previous history of back problemsStrength and willingness to intervene physically in a therapeutic manner with combative patients based on established protocolsFull range of body motion for handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordinationFrequent standing and walkingLifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 poundsExerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequentlyCorrected vision and hearing to normal rangeWorking under stressful conditions and irregular hoursExposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluidsLight Work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
