Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, crisis intervention, interpersonal relationships, and technical skills.Maintain Safety Crisis Management certification.Demonstrates high verbal and written communication skills.Serves as the initial point of contact for those inquiring about acute inpatient psychiatric hospitalization.Provide information regarding program details and basic expectations from inpatient admission.When a new patient arrives at the hospital, the patient services representative is responsible for collecting demographic information, parent or guardian information, contact information, and guarantor information as well as basic clinical information regarding reason for referral.Responsible for coordinating all inpatient registrations in a timely manner.Collaborates with nursing staff, physicians, milieu managers, clinical assessors, therapists and utilization review.In conjunction with nursing and youth care managers, performs bed management.At the appropriate time, obtains identification to assure accuracy of demographic and insurance information. Enters information in computer system with correct spelling of patient name and diagnosis, date of birth, social security number, employer, guarantor and correct medical record number.Explains facility policies and ensures patient and/or guardian understands and signs the consent and insurance forms at the appropriate time. Clear and accurate documentation should be entered on the appropriate forms and keyed into the computer system.Possesses knowledge of administrative policies and departmental proceduresAttends and actively participates in any staff training or education which relates to their position and would contribute to their knowledge.Responsible for other duties or projects, which are assigned by Management. These may include special projects, patient supervision, scanning, data retrieval and other duties as instructed.Coordinates, communicates, and assists in monitoring work flow and work tasks necessary to manage fluctuating volumes.Performs all duties in a manner that protects the confidentiality of patients and does not solicit or disclose any confidential information unless it is necessary in the performance of assigned job duties.Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.These statements are intended to describe the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.
