We are seeking a dedicated Behavioral Health Counselor MS to facilitate patient involvement in treatment, perform counseling, and coordinate discharge planning. This position offers a flexible hybrid work model, allowing you to impact patient care while maintaining work-life balance.Apply today — help us deliver compassionate, patient-centered behavioral health services!Position Overview:The Behavioral Health Counselor facilitates individual, group, and family counseling sessions, supports utilization review, and assists with discharge planning. Collaborating effectively with the healthcare team, you will ensure patients receive timely, safe services, with all necessary resources and education provided to patients and their families. You will interpret complex patient and family needs, model caring practices, and serve as a point person for cases involving abuse, neglect, guardianship, foster care, and mental health placements.Key Responsibilities:Facilitate patient involvement in treatment, education, and discharge planning through individual, group, and family counseling.Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure safe, timely, and resourceful patient care.Assess psychosocial risks by evaluating prior functioning, support systems, reactions to illness, and coping abilities.Counsel patients and families on emotional, social, and financial impacts of illness/disability.Access and mobilize community and family resources to meet patient needs.Conduct mental health assessments upon physician referral and provide therapeutic interventions.Serve as the point person for cases involving child abuse/neglect, adult/elderly abuse/neglect, institutional abuse, and domestic violence.Liaise with protective services, guardianship, foster care, and mental health agencies.Support complex discharge planning and crisis intervention, utilizing principles of crisis de-escalation.Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies, law enforcement, schools, and other stakeholders.Qualifications & Requirements:Experience: Relevant health care, mental health, or community-based experience working with adult populations.Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field required.Licensure: Current licensure or license eligibility in Indiana as an HSPP, LMFT, LCSW, or LMHC required. Clinical licensure preferred.Certifications: CPI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) certification may be required.Skills & Knowledge:Knowledge of the disease impact, human behavior, and legal mandates regarding child and adult protective services.Principles of growth and development across the lifespan.Techniques for crisis intervention and de-escalation.Strong communication, assessment, and counseling skills.Ability to develop and maintain relationships with community organizations and agencies.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.Why IU Health?Join Indiana’s largest and most comprehensive health system, dedicated to delivering high-quality behavioral health services.
